Probably happens to most people getting older. I assume you are about 20 something years old. Interests just change. I dropped many hobbies I did pretty intense earlier. No use in forcing something that you don't enjoy at all.

But reading is somehow special. Has been a method of enjoyment for a pretty long time in human history. You can read poetry, philosophy, slop, short stories etc. I just switch in between genres if one gets too boring. After a while you may find an author that picks your interest again.

I was a NEET from the start of covid to 2025
After the first year of covid I started studying languages and then about 1 year in I managed to read my first novel in my TL
From that point onward I was hooked to language learning and spend hours each day reading in my TL, then I picked up a new TL and repeated the same with that
At that point I had stopped playing video games because nothing else was as rewarding as language learning
I am employed now and I still try to spend 2 hours a day reading in my TLs
With my income I built a new PC to replace my 12 year old PC but after 2 months I just got completely bored of games and went back to language learning, something that seemingly never gets old

I'm exactly this too. All the put downs and fake advice people give to insult you:
>you have adhd
Nope. Zero trouble focusing
>you use social media/the internet too much
Nope. I've gone for a long time without internet
>you masturbate too much
Nope. I don't do it at all
>you need to go outside
Genuinely makes me feel worse. Physically and emotionally
>you need to exercise
I do. It just has never done the uplifting thing that gurus say. I just do it as a chore. I don't feel happier or accomplished. I don't feel energized.

I'm 33 and I still play a lot of video games, mainly just one or two games with a ton of replay value that I'll exclusively play. I'll never get sick of Dota 2.
I never listen to music anymore, not sure why, but I'd rather listen to a news podcast or some talk radio instead.
I can barely sit through a movie or show for some reason, but I can sit and read a book for a couple hours. I think it's just because most movies and shows are so dogshit.

It sounds like you need a long-term challenge. If you don't want to commit to that because it sounds like your mother telling you that they're all just jealous then start with a video game that takes a long time to finish or a book series. See if you lose patience. If you do then it's not the options, it's that your attention span doesn't match what it takes for you to be satisfied. You're selling your mind short.

The idea of depression and thus antidepressants are a construction to reduce the abstract nature of reality to something more manageable, similar to religion. SSRIs merely prevent the proper functioning of your brain by flooding your brain with neurotransmitters. While are proven to 'help' they do so by preventing your from feeling anything. To take antidepressants is to reject the very activity that is living.
