It's tolerable but overrated. All you can read are some 19th century novels and maybe also some selected 18th century ones. That's it, all while you barely can tell this language apart from English because they're dialects of each other.

It's mostly 19th century non-fiction in it, the language itself is also absolutely horrendous, and I see no reason to aim for reading non-fiction in its native language. What for? Those are pretty much just old philosophy textbooks.

Basically there's no reason for a white person to learn anything besides the Romance languages, unless they have some specific interest in mind.

There's no reason to learn a language beyond C1-level conversational fluency. Anything that's written can simply be translated

You only need French and English. There's lot of important literature in German but the language is ugly and retarded and unlikeable so it works better when translated anyways.

Germans are autistic and have zero imagination or artistic sensibilities. It is therefore impossible for anything to be lost in translation. This is why W.G. Sebald translates so well into English. Every single German work is massively improved by being translated into English, it's at this point their works get their soul. Reading the original German of anything is extremely soulless.

The only benefit I've had from knowing German was being able to read technical and academic shit on mechanical engineering
