My senior year in High School was after covid and all the female English teachers petitioned to change the curriculum to modern post-2008 YA novels and short stories. I ended up getting a D one of my semesters because my teacher was evil and had to do an online makeup class where I ended up learning about and reading bits of Hamlet and Beowulf, part of the original curriculum that was replaced.

All of my teachers were people like you. From personal experience, I know that the students who love literature will love Homer no matter what age they are exposed to him. Condescending to readers at their most impressionable is a surefire way to make them hate reading.
After years of being assigned simplistic and moralistic drivel by people like you in Middle School, I started to feel as if all of my childhood favorite books - Journey to the Center of the Earth, White Fang, The Time Machine - were not serious literature because they didn't explore family trauma or the immigrant experience or have a simple moral message. It was not until I read Homer and Shakespeare in high school that my love of literature for itself was reflected in the reading that I was assigned. Source: I hated all the books they forced us to read. None of us liked them at all, the kids who wanted good grades regurgitated the spiel at the exam and promptly forgot all of it, the rest of us didn't even bother regurgitating it. 20 years later I rediscovered those books on my own and finally liked them.

I kept reading as a kid DESPITE school's best efforts to make it a worthless, annoying experience, because I was reading (at the time) shit like Stephen King and the Animorphs, which is actually interesting to kids. Afterwards I started craving something more ON MY OWN.

I made a thread on here seething at this anti-white diaspora literature. But it's not just the diasporafags, so much of what gets published is just entitled whining. That South Park joke mocking Prince Andrew's memoir as "WAAAAGHH" is pretty accurate to a lot of it.

It reminds me of how these women behave in real life. They think whining about having it hard makes you important, because important and successful people are always busy and stressed out, and I'm important, so I must express being stressed out! You go into a social situation with them and they expect you to just care about their non-problems. Even if it's some DINK earning six figures with a husband earning six figures.

Then you read the old memoirs of actual famous philosophers and writers, and many only did 3-5 hours of reading and writing a day, and lived like comfy NEETs the rest of the time. Italian here. I did. I loved it. The Odyssey, the Iliad and of course The Divine Comedy were core in our literature curriculum. Latin or Latin and Greek are also standard, and we did translations of ancient texts. I don't know if any of this has changed over the years, I'd say probably.
We had Shakespeare for English lit and I shared my love for Wordsworth with a tomboy classmate who had a great smile and incredible titties and could recite all of Julius Cesar by heart.
Classic literature is great. I can't imagine reading whatever modern slop instead.

This is only their secondary goal. As someone who's worked in education, I know from experience that 99% of millennial female teachers enter education because they were nerds in high school and want a second shot at being the cool kid. They spend all their time in little internet bubbles on twitter, reddit and tumblr where they absorb what they believe to be cool and hip (ice breakers where you name your pronouns, steven universe tenderqueer shit, talking about trigger warnings and safe spaces, deconstructing the white male canon etc.) and then regurgitate it in the classroom because they think the kids will find them cool and relatable and not cringe and outdated

From a holistic view, it looks like some coordinated propaganda campaign, but from a sociological perspective it's much simpler. The kind of woman who wants to spend time around pubescent children is usually in a state of emotional and mental arrested development and wants to live the ideal high school experience they were denied because of that same arrested development.
