>Alcibiades and Critias were both students of Socrates
You know, maybe the Athenians had a point with those "corrupting the youth" allegations.

Nta, but Thucydides gives an account of how Alcibiades ran afoul of Athens just as the Sicilian expedition was about to begin. The Athenians had statues of Hermes called "Herms" outside of their houses. They were basically pillars with a bust of Hermes' head...and a phallus sticking out from the middle of the pillar. One morning, a bunch of Athenians wake up and notice that a whole bunch of the dicks have been smashed off the Herms, and suspicion falls on Alcibiades. But, at least according to Thucydides, it's a bullshit political charge levied by his Oligarchic rivals, and they further got a bunch of slaves to claim that he also blasphemied the Mysteries with a bunch of associates, which was grounds for punishment by death. But again, Thucydides, who thinks Alcibiades is a shitty demagogue, thinks this was bogus.

I don't think Alcibiades followed a single thing Socrates taught him

Bullshit charged. He was killed in revenge by the restored Assembly for being critical of Athenian democracy and passively supporting the reign of the Thirty Tyrants

Alcibiades' accusers waited until he left on the Syracuse campaign to hold a trial to determine his guilt. He had to go on campaign because he was elected to. As a result he was unable to defend himself, and only learned he was found guilty while on campaign. This resulted in his defection from Athens.

Sounds like Atheneas democoracy may have been hacked.
