I’ve recently taken up writing and drawing/visual arts myself as a means of self expression after I swore them off for years. Getting back into it has been very humbling, because I need to have patience with myself and my deteriorated abilities, particularly with drawing. At the same time I think there’s something inherently futile about taking creative expressions seriously, and within the past few months I’ve oscillated between extreme optimism and total pessimism in my prospects this will lead to anything meaningful. I managed to get one little pissant poem “published” in a local magazine with nothing on the other side of it, so I get the hopelessness but at the end of the day it’s still an achievement. Some other person saw value in what you produced and decided it was worthwhile to be printed.
If you already have some skills in the visual arts you might be able to parlay that into something a bit more rewarding than writing, at least from a financial perspective but it’s still hard. It’s best to just view yourself as an artist. I always look up to multidisciplinary artists because you can see how different mediums inform and influence one another, and I think in your case that might be a good way to view your writing without completely seeing it as time wasted. Start trying to see how potentially your creative vision in regards to writing might inform your visual art stuff going forward in some way, because ultimately it all comes out to you and there’s some kind of connection. Then the time spent writing won’t feel like a waste and you’ll be able to look back at it with some fondness. At least that’s my view on it all.

Just had a dream. The first part was something about me going around my neighborhood and stuff but I wanted to talk about the second (or third) part:
In that part I was in a kind of Visual Novel game but I controlled myself freely in first person, just like real life. Some stuff happened that I didn't remember, but I was supposed to go to a restricted area outside the city/town where no one should go to find a missing girl everyone was worried about. Me — the protagonist — said the girl I was looking for would be there because she used to go to that area when she was a kid. It was a abandoned mansion full of plants growing outside it, I think I talked about some details of it —just like it would happen in a VN — and entered the mansion. Now that's the part I'm more confused about: I might have encountered the girl alive, but some cuts (as in editing, in my dream) might have happened which led to another route somehow. Anyway, I'm gonna talk about that route.
I entered the mansion and it was kinda dark, I figured it would be more smart to call for her name while I look for her. I entered a room and in the back there was a feminine silhouette sitting at the table. After noticing my presence, it jumped across the room to my side. It was a short feminine figure — the typical "loli" — she had blue hair and twin tails and assumed a nonchalant/carefree personality, resting her arm at the counter behind us while talking to me.
I knew that she wasn't the girl I was looking for, and if she is where "my" girl was supposedly at, that means something is up; in this case, something not good. The details are kinda faded so I'll try to get to how it ended faster.
The girl I found didn't seem to be a bad person, we spent some time together (I faintly remember she jumping in a bed, I think) and she started trusting me — or maybe she trusted me from the start. At some point she invited me to be part of something, and I wondered what it was. She took me to a room — which I could be clearly seen from the from the counter aforementioned, but Dreams: go figure — and there I find the girl I was looking for.
She had a long dark blue hair and was wearing some kind of bodysuit like those in muv-luv alternative or xenosaga. She was sitting, strapped on some kind of machine. I knew by then that the loli girl wasn't to be trusted. Some talking happened —and maybe a little fighting too; she might have used guns against me — and at some point I took my chance to hit the little girl from behind — I think I used a metal bar and a pipe wrench, like the one in half-life.
After knowing she wasn't going to wake up so soon — or ever — I went to the missing girl. She was just sitting there, unresponsive. I tried removing her, but that's when I noticed her upper body wasn't attached to her arms and legs — her arms and legs might not even have been there, instead substituted by mechanical counterparts... 1/2

The next thing I noticed was that her brain — or rather, her head — wasn't quite there either. That's when I freaked out in the dream, I think. My boss told me today that they are unable to hire me after my 1 year contract as a trainee ends. In July this year I had a couple stranger-than-usual dreams. This one makes the better story (1/2).

I was on a bus tour of Japan, and at first I had only mild interactions with passengers. But one night I got the second seat to the front, which was occupied by two sleeping strangers. Vertical bars kept me firmly behind them, and I saw both the white of my teeth and a glint suggesting eyes in that dim front-window reflection. I was not yet afraid. As always I grew preoccupied with the moon, its frail lamp far away in a hazy sky. Rounding a bend and driving in the narrows between high stone walls a bridge appeared overhead, which from its side seemed whole, but passing under I saw it shattered. Then another... and another. The walls and bridges ceased, but the buildings of a new horizon-wide countryside retained their bomb-eaten patina. I half-fancied them nuked, but the litter-like rubble looked more conventional. Something indistinct about it all puzzled me before a sight made it certain; a colossal copper-green dome lying wasted amidst the pallid ruins. It was too big. I imagined the height such a pinnacle fell from; it would be the capstone of a nation of giants unmentioned anywhere. Nowhere on earth had I heard of such a bleak memorial to war so well maintained. Germany, I thought. Nowhere but 1940s Germany would destruction be this entire. But the land grew stranger and a music started, the rhythm hissing and percussing again and again:
