Generally speaking I agree with you, artistry and skill come first. But then the greatest achievements in art undoubtedly require something like superhuman inspiration and sometimes the pressures involved in that can result in the typically crazy, narcissistic or insecure artist's personality. She was a misanthrope. All great artists eventually fall to the throws of it sometimes because humans are gross soulless golems who want to feast on your entrails and step on you at every opportunity.
