I can't recall exactly which part, but he uses Machiavelli as a source (who warns against developing a reputation for generosity in The Prince as self destructive), while I think in one section of 48 laws he strongly advocates for it.

After hearing so much praise for it and seeing around in office, I'm kind of disappointed. Even so, it's an interesting enough read.

Didn't read that but have it on my shelf. I read The 33 Strategies of War and it was quite good, the anecdotes underpinned his lessons, of which I think are too many to remember to apply. His last section, Dirty Warfare, shows exactly how Jews, Asians, and Muslims operated throughout history: deception and then brutalization. Interesting he calls it dirty and many examples are of modern history such as the British against the Germans, and some Ching Chong dynasty against another.

I also read half if The Art of Seduction but got bored. Interesting premise and many trvkes in it, but I cannot be bothered to always act in a seductive manner because it is effeminate. The gist in of the book is to have right conduct according to your character type and to avoid being anti-seductive. His chapter on seducer types, types that want to be seduced and on anti-seducer traits are golden.

I read this when I was 16, I enjoyed it for stories and A|B chapters but even then I realised it's not something to take seriously, but was interesting. I reread bits when I was 25 and it was just utter shit trash I could only do a few pages before I decided to do something else.

Robert greene is complete trash but at least this one is honest about his horrible view of humanity and relies less on decontextualised annecdotes.

Anyway, the book is good. The one and only ACTUAL critique is that you gotta be born dark triad, in which case this book would be superfluous. The book is unable to transform you. At best you gain a cursory understanding of power and might be able to understand power games better. Same with his book on seduction.
