Imagine paying 39 bucks to read some old queers fantasy about how they massacred civilians for Uncle Sam and shared their body heat with their platoon in the the cold rainy Cambodian jungle nights
loved jakob walter's "diary of a napoleonic footsoldier". at one points he kodnaps a jew and forces him to act as his guide, but then abandons him because he kvetches too much.
I don't often see this one mentioned in these types of threads. Homie fought through all 4 years of the war and was at Verdun and I believe the Somme iirc (it's been a very long time since I read this).
I enjoyed this, but there is apparently controversy as to whether it's legit or not. The only people I've seen arguing against it seems to be Rusophiles though, so take that as you will.

"Dear mom... A sniper's vietnam."
starts before basic, and continues through until he gets out. Graphic and realistic. No hero violence, just... the straight dope.

This is the best one ever written and I have only read half of the books in this thread in a vain attempt to try and find the sheer greatness found in Junger's account. It is truly transcendent.

In what world does this book cost more than £10 to buy anywhere new? I can order this book right now for £4.93 second hand. Also it's a pacific WWII memoir so there's no Civillian massacring, or anything about Cambodia.

Storm of Steel -Ernst Junger (As two anons have pointed out, this is the pinnacle of war-memoir literature, it is the absolute best of the bunch.
My War Gone By I miss it So - Anthony Loyd (Is about a journo in the Yugoslav wars)
Dispatches - Michael Herr (Is also about a journo but in Vietnam)
