Posydal's actually just a stand in for the actual person running the whole Posydal empire, Amandra Kamandra. Posydal just got tricked into being his puppet proxy via some mind control, I think like the slave crown from FF6. To be blind sided with such a strong tonal whip lash in writing was something wild. It really made me wish Nagano had written the whole show as much as i love Tomino's stuff.

Amandra Kamandra is a weird character. I don't get his motivation. Understood as a merchant of death, he was profitting from the Rebels X Posaydal's Empire conflict, so he would sell to both sides, and support Leece (giving her the Whale). That is clear enough. But once it's revealed his true identity, his actions seems nonsensical. Why support the rebels? What's the bennefit of the double (triple?) agenda? Is it because of the immortality-boredom that is behind Fullflat's plot against Posaydal? I don't remember the show answering any of these questions

I appreciate seeing an L-Gaim thread not long after finishing the anime. Overall I feel it's not one of Tomino's best, but it still has strong charm to it. I'd buy that $500 boxset if I wasn't responsible with my money these days.

It's because Posaydal knows that a rebellion to conquer the Pentagona System will also fall to an uprising against his rule.

Posaydal gave himself a vacation by living amongst the civilians as an arms dealer. It gives him invaluable insight on any discontent amongst the populace and as the arms supplier, he can sniff out whose the most serious opposition. They're just enough of a threat for his underlings via Mian and the Elite 13 to smash up. He gets rich by depriving rebels of their money and killing them off. He also beta-tests his equipment and technology (he keeps the best stuff for himself obviously) when he supplies them and his own imperial troops with new Heavy Metals.

Posaydal's biggest fuck-up is that for all his calculations and plots; he neglected to keep Mian and Full Flat on his side. They both loved him and he just merely strung them along as tools. He also screwed up by not ensuring that Mian wouldn't turn against him and have his own soldiers side with her as the "real" Posaydal instead of him.

Despite all this, he was VERY close to winning. He fumbled the ball plenty in the last 10 episodes yet he was dangerous enough to kill Daba and squash the rebels with his Original Auge.

This was never mentioned before and it was near the end of the series that this factoid was mentioned. I really wish we knew what the Yaman and the pre-Conquest era was like when Posaydal was young.

I always found it interesting that while Mian was the Amu parallel and Fullflat was the Leccee counterpart, the show had Amu interact with Fullflat the most while Leccee conversed with Mian (like OP's image shows). I guess the girls had to see the other woman's POV to truly develop their own agency instead of merely seeing their mirror.

I could be getting this all wrong so just in case, I'll make it clear, I'm a fucking retard

rescan is when they have the master/original footage of the media and they use today's better technology to scan it and use the data to make "remasters" and high defintion 720p\1080p\2160p versions that look way better than the way they originally produced it for the TV airing or movie screening decades ago, hence the term "rescan" as in they're scanning it again but in a higher quality version

upscale is when they don't have the original footage (usually film) so they have to use something like taped copies, DVD copies, etc which are sorta low quality to begin with and they play around with the video settings (or even use AI) to improve the way it looks. it especially refers to when your older footage is at something like 480p and you bring it up to a higher resolution like 1080p, with the implication that it's not just in a higher resolution but it's supposed to look better as long as someone competent was working on it, but depending on how it was upscaled, it can vary from awful to kinda amazing

It's in the final episode where it makes the least amount of impact. Tomino admitted L-Gaim became a bit of a sacrifice because he had to start working on Zeta which might explain why they were just cramming in more backstory without any proper setup just to fill out the episodes.
