Mirai was the kind of girl who ruins your life. She hated her fiance not because of anything wrong with him but because he was chosen for her. And I don't mean like she just wasn't in love with him, she was like disgusted by him simply because her parents wanted her to marry him.
And then she instantly fell in love with the old man who slapped her in the face and told her to fucking act right when she showed that ugly part of her personality on the bridge in front of everyone.

>asks a guy to support her
>guy just talks about how he can spend money to get other people to do things
Pencil neck didn't even know what the fuck a relationship was. She didn't hate him, she just didn't have any connection to him and every bridge she offered he ignored. He was utterly baffled by getting dumped because he couldn't conceptualize interpersonal interaction outside of transactions.

Slegger was a bastard, but he had a heart and knew what to do with it. Both of the slaps he gave out were well deserved.

Did he have a choice?
If anything I think Mirai was the one who made the right choice.

Tomino's commentary on women has been very clear in numerous interviews.

Mirai is not a leader. She wanted to be a follower. The few times she was in command, Mirai was so hesitant and worried that even Sayla yelled at her to stop being so nervous and hesitant. Then Sayla took command without anyone knowing and Mirai said "Let's do what you think is best..." when getting attacked by Zeon.

That's why Mirai wanted a man who could dominate her and lead. She wanted to submit. Mirai feels most at ease when someone strong is leading. Mirai didn't like Cameron not because he was rich or that he was chosen by her parents. Mirai hated Cameron because she "perceived" Cameron as weak. Cameron wasn't a bad guy and there wasn't anything wrong with him. It was all in Mirai's mind.

That's why she fell in love with Sleggar who slapped her when she disrespected Cameron and got out of line. She felt that Sleggar was a strong man she could follow. It's also why Mirai fell for Bright as well. Bright wasn't as muscular as Sleggar, but he could take charge and Bright could lead other men. So she felt safe with him.

This is Tomino commenting on female nature. You can read about it interviews. He pretty much does the same thing in every series. Mirai, Reccoa, Haman, Nanai, etc. He always has an example of a woman in every show that is willing to cross the line to get what she wants.

Listen up you primitive screwheads, Mirai did not “randomly” fall in love with Sleggar after getting slapped. Her burgeoning psychic powers had afforded her various glimpses of future sight up to that point and prior to their kiss at Solomon she got an overwhelming sense of THIS DUDE GONNA DIE. Upon hearing his craft was hit she rushes down to find him A-OK munching burger. Now that feeling hadn’t gone away, even seeing this, and Mirai was about to blow her metaphysical stack. Sleggar, being a red blooded MANS MAN full of hamburg and machismo, saw this beautiful young woman he tried to both entice and push away rush to his side with tears in her eyes. He absolutely misread the signs and went and planted a fat one on her. (Bright also misread the signs because he’s an insecure petulant child) This was him being completely honest as well, saying he was no good for her, but maybe…just maybe she could hold onto this ring till he gets back. Mirai of course responded with “abloobloobloo” and Sleggar flew off to his duty and death.

Sleggar was at best one or two years older than Mirai. And Mirai is like 18-19 on MSG.

i always wondered why mirai randomly gets involved in a love triangle so late in the series, but that makes way more sense. i guess i just don't understand why mirai was chosen to be this character, while she is bitchy and never-pleased when talking to cameron it seems like that kind of behavior comes out of nowhere for her - everything before that, she's portrayed as kind of weak and mindlessly helpful, not really much else. you can handwave it, and i'm sure there is a rational explanation, but that part still seems weird. tomino does a better job with keeping general emotional constitution consistent with all those other characters you mentioned, though, so i guess he learned his lesson there.

Every woman is allowed to be hyper emotional, choosy, and be love drunk once in their lives. They get this chance once in their youth. It's the privelege reserved for women. It was simply Mirai's turn.

After that, she mellows out and becomes a Mom.

Honestly Bright should have gotten it on with Emary. It would have only been fair.
