Literally one of the worst first episodes of a show I've watched in a long time. I almost always give a show the first 3-4 episodes before deciding this isn't worth my time, but very rarely do I decide something isn't worth my time after the first.

The entire structure of revenge isekai is wanting to write an edgy anti-hero protagonist, but also being too pussy to just do that so the entire world has to be full of ridiculous cartoon villains he can't really be more unlikable than.
Instead of just doing something honest and straightforward like rance or dark schneider, we have to sit through this ridiculous charade before we can now excuse all the protagonists later actions now that nothing he does can possibly be going too far.

1983 and yes in terms of Anime though the concept of a character ether going back in time or to another world is older and appears in these things called books like The Wizard of Oz or A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court for example, but these are called Portal fantasies.
