>>23330083 (OP)It's just parts. I classify these kind of designs as kitbashslop. It's the kind of slop you see on the 3D concept art section of artstation. It's just a humanoid assembly made out of random shapes and mechanical parts. They aren't cohesive designs, they only exist to demonstrate the moving pieces so the artist can show off how good their rigging and animations are. That CAN be cool, but that was never the appeal of "mecha." The Zaku and Gundam basically shapeshift and stretch and bend in the animation, just like humans. Mazinger and Getter do too. Transformers do the same. Optimus in G1? Not full of moving parts, just some shapeshifting when he transforms. Mecha were basically superheroes and that's why they got popular, especially in asia which didn't have capeshit.
It is true that fans do like to see the mechanical parts underneath designs like the Gundams and Zakus, but it's like a woman in lingerie or cute clothes. You want to take her clothes off, you don't want her showing everything off from the start.
