he's such a little weasel at the start of the show it's really nice seeing how he progresses over the course of the show

0079 has the best character writing in Gundam by far. I love Zeta, ZZ, and Victory but despite being great shows they all fall short of the original in one way or another.

Zeta has some incredible highs in the writing department but it’s dragged down slightly by its somewhat bloated cast and the Rosamia and Reccoa arcs towards the end. Jerid is definitely one of the best parts, his constant failures as a result of his insecurities being preyed upon by Scirocco by way of positive reinforcement was very engaging.

There's also the bullshit around Sarah. The main cast regularly ditching battles and getting out of their suits to try and convince the person who is actively in the process of gassing millions of people to "just stop" or something. Literally cheered when Katz finally died.

He's got a lot of grit and it's admirable how far he pushes himself to fight Kamille and improve considering that Kamille is the best pilot and Newtype the series ever had.
Bit overrated and he should have defected the moment they made him kill Kamille's mom or at least stayed in the Byarlant.

Oh I hate Jerid but that's what makes him such a good character in my eyes. He's a total scrub who thinks he isn't, and the only reason he lived as long as he did is because he kept getting lucky during his battles. He'd almost be admirable in how determined he is if he wasn't so full of himself. A good reminder of the kind person I try not to be. Also him and Kamille killing each others' girlfriends was funny.

He's not as solid in piloting as Amuro and nowhere near as good a newtype as Kamille (in the novel, some of his powers are even lent to him by Kamille), but he's more mentally strong than either. Judau always had his friends to rely on, and someone to protect and work toward a future for with Leina. Judau was able to become a better person in this environment.
When asked if Judau was intended to be an antithesis to Kamille, Tomino said this:
