Cameron offered to escort White Base out of Side 6 airspace so the Zeon warships waiting outside wouldn't open fire on them as soon as they saw them. Mirai thought this was just Cameron trying to win her back with displays of bravado, and Cameron got sucked into her argument. Sleggar had enough and slapped Mirai for being a brat and making it about her when Cameron's offer was extremely generous to the entire ship, and then punched Cameron for not standing up for himself and allowing Mirai to dictate his emotions.

Sleggar was a hot shot in a turret, a wingman and advisor to Amuro, and more experienced and wiser than most of the crew, but more than willing to help them all out. He was too damn cool to live.
