I went into Macross Delta thinking it would be the worst mainline entry (other than maybe II) based on what the redditors were saying. Holy shit those people were wrong. It's the only entry to have actual good dogfights since Zero, and in my opinion, the songs are more consistently good than the Frontier ones. The Vajra in Frontier were utterly boring and the Macross version of "Space Prussians" are the most interesting antagonist race they've had since the Zentradi in the original. What do you guys on here think of this show?

I ended up liking it when I watched it somewhat recently too. A lot of the major complaints really where blown out of proportion.

imagine watching a franchise you like but all you can think of is "hmm is this the worst entry in the franchise or is it this other one?" instead of just enjoying yourself

I cannot agree at all, Delta fell into the modern trend of J-pop girl groups where every other song is the most obnoxious over-produced electronic/dubstep composition. It sounds so messy most of the time, and the girls voices don't work well over some of the ballads.

Frontier's songs had much stronger composition. Even when they were heading in that maximalist pop direction Kanno is just much more skilled at keeping her compositions clear.

Same here. Didn't hear a single positive word for a decade so I expected true garbage but it was actually pretty good.
Sure, it's by far the worst of the 25+ episode ones and had only 2, maybe 3 songs that truly separated themselves from the rest. But I'd take it over II, Zero and whatever that 7 thing with the space whales was.

The plot went nowhere in the tv second half and they barely did anything with walkure. The members outside of mikumo and freya could've been regular ship crews and the story wouldn't change at all. That's one of my biggest issue with it; they simply wanted to make walkure a thing irl for events and marketing but they didn't try to integrate it into the story.

Delta was were a lot of boomers who had been nursing a grudge since 7 tried to make their last stand. In the end all it did was make a lot of newer fans form their own communities. It was a little sad to see the owner of Macrossworld start to sell his own collection to keep the site up because the mods would rather promote their own creeper cosplay photo project than run a proper forum community. That super dimension foto motherfucker is still at it too.

I hope someday we get a Macross show that's about a war between two colony fleets. The little that was shown of cultural differences between the Galaxy and Frontier fleets was very interesting but it got sidelined by the Vajra, which was unfortunate. I found the world-building they did with the fleets to be way more interesting than the hivemind space bugs.
