I loved his Berserk adaption but is G Gundam is really that good? I kept hearing it's bland.

It's immediately noticeably better than UCslop objectively. Lots of sakuga kino moments you would never see in previous Gundam shows. Tomino's shit directing and autistic writing was really holding the series back.

It's a bog-standard tournament anime. It gets very repetitive and one-sided, and there's a lot of downtime between the really cool moments. Build Fighters or even a Brave show would be better to watch. If you want to watch an Imagawa show, watch Giant Robo.
