"Tomino's Original Vision" was to sell model kits that made him rich. That why build series is the only real gundam.

War this, war that. Fuck you! Buy an airbrush and high grade model kits.

Tomino's original vision was luring in kids with promises of fun robot adventures and giving them Vietnam flashbacks for life.

Tomino hates plastic companies and lives to fuck with them and their mandates.

Thats not true at all. You have no idea what youre talking about. They didnt sell model kits until AFTER the show was cancelled and started airing reruns a year later. Gundam was originally funded by Clover, a toy company (NOT a model kit manufacturer) but pulled their funding after toy sales failed.

Basically they were aiming for kids, failed, ended up appealing to older people and so Bandai picked it up and made scale models.

You're retarded.

As embellished in Gundam Sousei, the mandate was to sell toy figures.
This is the heart of why Tomino could get away with what he did: no one cared enough about the toy commercial vehicle itself, only that whatever it did sold toys, because this was a time when anime was seen as glorified toy commercials and little else and any exceptions to that narrative (YAMATO) were just that, mere exceptions.

So while Gundam absolutely choked in its intended purpose of selling toy figures, it gave Tomino the opening to tell the story he wanted to tell, which itself created some of the conditions that allowed for Gundam to be reborn as a plastic model vehicle that occasionally tells stories worth enjoying for the sake of the story and not just an excuse for model kits. Mind you, along the way Tomino was sure as hell making sure to give Bandai as much grief as possible for trying to succeed where Clover failed, because he just loves to troll producers who don't breathe down his neck enough.

No matter how bad Seed or Gcucks or IBO season 2 were, Metaverse will always be the worst Gundam.

Let's remember that Tomino got late into the production process. Gunboy was being planned by Hoshiyama, Yamaura, and Iizuka. There's a good writeup of the whole process on Mark's page: https://gundamunofficial.com/production/firstgundam.html

Furthermore, the early drafts are attributed to Hoshiyama, not Tomino.

Gunboy would have sucked ass and become another worthless forgotten show. It's the depth of tomino's writing and characters that pulled it to something greater. Like dunbine, l-gaim etc. Characters that stick with you. It's the same thing that made star wars famous

Did you know that Tomino only wrote a single episode of Mobile Suit Gundam, "Time, Be Still"?

Tomino is credited as Chief Director and did storyboards for most episodes, but the bulk of the writing was done by Matsuzaki and Yoshitani.

Tomino didn't join late, he became part of the planning process as soon as Zambot 3 had ended.
Early drafts are way different than what actually became of the show.
It was called Tomino memo for a reason.
As for scripts, Tomino has been notorious for changing them in storyboarding process, it's the way he exerts control on the show. According to him, storyboards are where 70 percent work is done. The beginning of 1st episode was changed from the script to have a silent infiltration of the Zakus in to the colony, most of Sayla's backstory and relationship with Char was established during the storyboards, Amuro's mother having an implied affair was also not part of the script.
