Am I too autistic for mecha? Whenever I try to get into it I always get caught up in thinking how each of these machines must cost millions of dollars yet everyone is blowing them up in training exercises without batting an eye and it really distracts me

You are stuck in the old idea of: "super special mecha prototype must cost millions of dollars because it's super special and only the main characters can have one".

If we are able to construct mecha and mass produce them, then they will not cost millions of dollars. Economies of scale will come into effect. Look at Gundam. Anaheim Electronics is basically Space Walmart and they sell mecha to civilians for cheap. It's like buying a car.

I mean, the USA army lost like 200 millions of equipment to the sea and people barely care.

It's like playing video games where you drive a car but never ever run out of fuel. It's a aspect best left ignored/simplified for the sake of medium convenience.
