XENOGEARS's #1 for me. A.S. Valken is great and A.S. Leynos 2 been kicking my ass but it's fun, just need more time to play it if I have the chance.

I wished I had a chance to play both the Armored Core and Virtual On series.

Xenogears is barely a game.
For me it's Ace Combat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_TNwiZsuUU

Granted it can get a bit chatty at times IMO (doesn't deter my appreciation of the game and expands on the world building), just wished they had a "text speed up" function and of course the infamous disc 2 where it was a rushed disaster thanks to Squaresoft's management. I know the Xenosaga series took the cinematics to gameplay ratio to a whole new (questionable) level, Xenogears is not going to be everyone's favorite cup of tea and it's all good.

>blaming Squaresoft when Takahashi has been very upfront about how he and his team bit off far more than they could chew and that Disc 2 was the best they could pull off to deliver a complete game within the deadlines imposed

Both Square and Takahashi are at fault. Takahashi didn't plan things out well and Square gave Takahashi a bunch of newbies to work with.

Custom Robo and Chibi-Robo for GameCube have been some of my favorites since I was a kid, still mad they never translated the N64 Custom Robos for the switch expansion pass considering they have a bunch of JP only stuff on the other emulators.
I have been wondering if Xenoblade X is any good, I never got into the first xenoblade when I played it on the wii and now there’s 3 of them but X seems standalone so I’ve been tempted.

>I never got into the first xenoblade when I played it on the wii and now there’s 3 of them but X seems standalone so I’ve been tempted.

I never played any of the Xenoblade series but PERSONALLY I’m not a fan of the gameplay mechanics. From what I’ve heard and seen it’s basically auto combat and you hit certain buttons at certain times to unleash particular attacks.

Also regarding Xenoblade X specifically those mechs AKA Skells from again what I heard they can transform but it’s through movement as in you can’t push a button to transform them at the moment and on top of that you have to “get a license” in the game to be able to ride one of those mechs which I heard can be a pain in the ass.

Basically get more opinions on Xenoblade X or the entire Xenoblade series before throwing money and time into it. PERSONALLY IMO not one of Takahashi's best games but *maybe* you'll like it/them.

Armored Core 6 MIGHT get a switch 2 port, if the original xbox one can run it then the switch 2 can
Seriously AC6 is fucking amazing and the GOTD for me

I've been playing robotech invasion lately and it's actually annoying how many mech/power armor specific niches it hits for me. You've got the full transforming power armor that turns into a motorcycle and a jetpack, and a neat lockon system that's really cool but almost nothing else uses. Like you target an enemy, but then you have a pointer you control over the target so you can still pinpoint. It just really gives you that big cool power armor with a lot of functions feeling.

Unfortunately the game itself is a bit of a slog. You basically just hold down the shoot button at the same two or three types of enemies for the entire game, and there's very little weapon variety so you're 90% using the near-infinite ammo main gun. Occasional turret or sniper section for gameplay variety, so not much. It's not terrible, it's just that the character controls and feel are way better than the enemy and level design so you feel like a cool character in a middling game.

Sadly I highly doubt I'm gonna get the Switch 2. The AC series looks real fun along with Virtual On (on the Sega Dreamcast with the specialized control sticks) which again I never had a chance to play.

So I saw a small clip of that game, yeah it's really cool with what you can do with the Mospeada power armor / transforming cycles. As you said seems like the gameplay can get repetitive but the atmosphere can keep you engaged and of course the fun of controlling those power armors.

If that is the case, I think it might take some time, since 3rd party titles are not selling well there right now. So maybe a expansion/same generation title can be a better incentive, if From is bothering with that.

S2 is getting Elden Ring, assuming the work on that is Fromsoft's excuse to implement the Switch 2 as a valid compile target for their in-house engine alongside the Duskbloods project then it's entirely plausible for anything up to Armored Core 6 or even Nightreign getting ported over, so long as you don't mind potentially having a 30fps cap as a concession for stable performance (AC6 actually plays decently well in 30fps, and I've wished that Elden Ring could similarly be capped because it otherwise gives my Legion Go a few fits if I'm being stingy about TDP).

Of course, what is more likely to happen is Dark Souls trilogy port. Because free money.

Nah, heard about it and I think someone who worked on A.S. Valken actually worked on that.

Heard about that game, it's like a puzzle game too in a sense right?

Xenoblade X is my single favorite game of all time, so I can provide a bit more context to what this anon says. First, you do need to get licensed to get a skell. You unlock the quests for this after about 30 hours, but that kind of works in the game's favor since it gives you time to really go and explore the world on foot, get a feel for how vast it is, and get used to the combat system since it changes a bit when you're in a skell. Yeah your basic attacks are automatic on whatever enemy you've targeted (some enemies have specific parts you can target to disable special attacks or get special materials) but you activate all of your skills manually. On foot, these are based on what weapon types you have equipped and are unlocked by leveling up different classes, but in a skell they're based on your loadout. Things like back mounted rocket launchers or railguns will give you extra skills. These operate on a cooldown, but also consume fuel in a skell. There are a lot of extra systems too like overdrive mode or augments that give stat bonuses. It's very similar to classic MMO combat, but done in a way that feels engaging. The constant progression towards different goals and the way that all the systems interlock with each other make it really compelling to me. As for transformations, they're basically just a faster way to move around in your skell and never used for combat. The flight module is different since you can use it while fighting, but it burns through fuel.
