I rewatched it few days ago. It's decent if you are already aware of the pace it will be going at.
It's still just 2 hours, there are worse Gundam shows and films than this.

No. It has some questionable timeskips in the narrative but it is generally pretty consistent with itself.
But it lacks Zeon so it sucks.

Is this the thing that introduced beam shields? I haven’t watched this yet but beam shields seem kind of cool.

Is this section of the UC timeline only a film? Or is this movie supplemental to a series?

>>23357426
I do wish that the UC timeline didn’t skip around so much because the aesthetic of the mobile suits change so much that it introduces a lot that just aren’t as cool looking as the older obsolete ones

This is only a few years before the Crossbone Gundam manga and a couple decades before Victory, so while there were a few works set during or after the time period, it has mostly been left untouched by Sunrise for a while.

Late UC just feels like it flounders. It never really hooked onto any major arcs and characters as interesting as the early ones. At their worst they just feel like AUs in all but name, where it's new conflicts with totally different people and factions and the start of the era where gundam became super self-referential but not as good.

It could've done that, but it got the one two punch of F91 getting fucked over into becoming a 2 hour movie and Victory happening when Tomino was very depressed, so it got its legs cut before the marathon.

Yep. Here's a spoiler-free webm.

>Is this section of the UC timeline only a film? Or is this movie supplemental to a series?
Aside from the F91 film, there are some manga that explore the ~15 years before and afterward, there aren't other animated TV series, OVA, or films set in this part of the UC time period. The Char's Counterattack (UC0093) movie takes place 30 years before F91, and then Victory Gundam (UC0153) TV series takes place 30 years after F91.

There's other stuff like Gundam Hathaway that takes place in UC0105, but only one movie is out and the second movie is still in development. Either way, F91 is very standalone in terms of story. There's a manga series called Crossbone Gundam that has some base ties to some characters and groups from the F91 movie, but very quickly establishes itself as its own story and soon thereafter all relation to F91 the movie is mostly dropped in favor of new plotlines.

I realize that this sounds ignorant but judging off other people’s comments and it being so far in the future with completely different factions from the sounds of it do most people even care about this? I’m still curious about it. I think years back I had a toy from whatever this series is. It was a dark blue or dark grey mobile suit with yellow trim and a green beam shield and looked like a gundam.

I think it could have been interesting but it gets really hard to care for a timespan that gets 0 content outside of supplementary material.

The toy you mentioned might be Harrison's F91 technically from crossbone, but the F91 itself is predictably form F91. A good amount of people care about it, the issue is it doesn't really obviously tie into much besides manga and Bandai doesn't really push it often so there's not much to talk about outside of crossbone.

Yeah it looks like that’s what it was. I had one from the fix figuration line my dad got me as a birthday present like 2 decades ago. it had pieces to turn it into something that says f90 on the shield looking at the pictures on google. Looked cool but I never knew what it was.

>do most people even care about this?
Well, kinda depends. It's a less well known entry of Gundam in general, but Gundam in general spans like 45 years so maybe people in general either only know the earlier UC stories because they're iconic and keep getting references\merchandise\attention, or the latest stuff that came out in the last 5 or 10 years and is still in recent memory.

On this board? F91 gets brought up a fair bit so I'd say people care about it. Speaking broadly, most of us tend to like the animation sequences a lot for the quality, but think the story needed more time, maybe. It's not a badly made story by any means.

>I think years back I had a toy from whatever this series is. It was a dark blue or dark grey mobile suit with yellow trim and a green beam shield and looked like a gundam.
Probably pic related. It's a mass produced F91 piloted by a character called Harrison Martin\Madin from the Crossbone Gundam manga, which takes place about 10 years after the F91 movie. The blue and yellow are his personal colors.

I see. That’s kind of based. If you look up Harrison’s f91 gundam fix figuration you can see the figure I’m talking about. It came with parts for two different models. Not sure which one looks coolest to you guys but I swapped it to look like the model you posted. I just remember being fascinated with the bizarre shield since I had never seen a beam shield which still seems to be uncommon in gundam as a franchise. The other build looks to be something called the f90. Was crossbone a pirate themed thing? For some reason I had that impression maybe it was just the name

Crossbone is pirate themed, but it's more of a cover for fighting the Jupiter empire than actually being pirates. Also note that crossbone has a ton of manga that last I checked are getting close to G-Savior at this point.

I dunno why they cancelled it as an OVA series just to make it a single movie. Would've made one death scene less hilarious and paced things out better.

If I recall, the VA for Seabook passed away and beyond videogame appearances I assume they can't be assed to recast him, so that probably also killed any chance of a Crossbone anime.

For Hathaway's they got a new actor and used the old Hathaway as the inspector. Even with Gcooks they got a new VA for Char but still used Ikeda for the one flashback alternate timeline battle, Bandai has no problems recasting when they want to. It's probably because of F91's low reception, which is their fault anyway.

Man, I would have loved a properly imagined F91. You can really tell which plot points would have been their own episodes if you go into it with the context of its production. Shame it probably wouldn't be as much of a piece of eye candy if it were remade into a full series today. The aesthetics and animation were gorgeous, and I just don't have faith in modern production to live up to that standard.
I can't even begin to imagine the over reliance on CGI for some things.

F91 and Victory are so funny when they try to push the Federation bad angle.
>look at how EARTHNOIDS have lived in peace until SPACENOIDS invaded yet again
>the Federation has grown conplacent and corrupt in times of peace
Doesn't that literally mean spacenoids are warmongers and the problem?

I liked it. Beautiful animation. Cecily was a great aristocrat. The ending felt like "fuck it, throw the char clone in a mobile armor and we'll call it a day".
>>23359254
crossbone is offensive because the f91 characters show up with completely different personalities. Steel 7 makes up for everything though
