Itโ€™s ok it would have been a 6.5 out of 10 but I think the weird legs ruin it and it kind of just feels like they did something weird or quirky just for the sake of doing it. Doesnt really mesh with the rest of the design. Iโ€™m not sure why they called it a gelgoog and itโ€™s ironic because one of the gelgoogs distinguishing features are the large armored flared legs. they should have just done that.

The weird tube legs sort of ruin it for me. I also wish we had seen how the design evolved after the OYW instead of it only existing in flashbacks and a filler episode.

I despise it for being what retards think "realistic" is just so they can shit on the original uc designs. same goes for the gcucks gundams
Anonymous
6/30/2025, 9:26:01 AM No.23357690
no idea what the writers were going for but a significant number of gqux fans have told me these designs are supposed to be more realistic and they just fail to achieve that
OG UC designs are significantly more realistic and no just because you think bell bottoms on a zaku or a samurai face on a gundam is still doesn't change the fact that no military would ever be using those GI Joe action figure joints and leaving so much of the internals completely exposed. if you think the originals look unrealistic because they aren't covered in random bits your wrong, all that shit would obviously be covered up by cladding and armour
ignoring the realism argument then they are just kinda mid looking grunt suits, dont hate them, might build one

Personally, the name doesnt bother me that much cause I understood it as the next logical thing to do. Ok we captured the gundam, its better than what we currently have and figured beam waepons; so lets stop what are we doing, and start mass producing it. The next general purpose MS would've been called Gelgoog anyway so theres that.
Plus they sell the Zakus to civilians and colonies for general use so theres still a market for that and keep producing it.

>>23357684
I like that the general design philosophy of Zeon here is more utilitarian, like making the fuel tanks more integrated into the suit and really gives it a more spacey and realistic approach you see in irl machines too.

I always thought the bellbottoms on the gelgoog looked sort of realistic because it looked like extra armor protecting the thrusters. I donโ€™t think a design for media needs to be 100 percent realistic but there is that percentage that helps whatever it is. At least for the โ€œboringโ€ stuff like the grunt suits which are usually my favorite.

I would argue that much of the design philosophy for the standard zeon suits was always sort of realistic. zakus have a lot of curved shapes which helps deflect ballistic projectiles. Maybe thatโ€™s just cope though.

you understand these aren't tanks right, one works in climate controlled factories and the others are disposable and often times expected to explode, why do tanks have skirts and mantlet covers
obviously some of the suspension or exhaust can be exposed but showing off everything is not realistic for an armoured fighting vehicle designed to survive small arms fire and extended time in the field

Alright but I would argue the geometry of the gelgoog leg below the knee would probably have a chance to deflect shots from nearly every angle. Because of them using beams in space those it basically doesnโ€™t matter either way what shape you make the armor does it? Kampfer might be a decent design for some added thickness maybe.

im honestly not sure, I guess you'd have to look at the animation to see how beam weapons behave and what might be a real world analogue for that, plasma stream, super powered laser but moving slower, stream of incoming light weight particles but very fast moving like a weaponized sand blaster etc
in a few of these cases the geometry of the armour would make a noticeable difference

I really don't care for the gFred or Gquuuuuuuuuuuux. The Dom is neat, the Big Zam is nice, and I adore the White/Red Gundam. The GMgoog Is also really interesting. Everyone bitching about them looking different is ridiculous- one of the main complaints in UC is that the designs are stagnant and all just rehashes of muh special donut steel ace grunt variants. This shit is actually fresh.
