May AC8 survive recent Bamco axing.

Air Combat 22 is getting a rerelease to conicide with this, which is cool. Judging from the behind the scenes part of that video they're working on something, they had a model of an F-111 on a table so they could be making it's debut in the series. They also had a model of what looks like a Falken, but it was blurred out. That might be a mistake though.

Also I can't believe Nugget is fucking dead.

I wonder what took them so long for AC8.

There's been some shuffling going on in Bamco's development studios. I also think 7's development was such a clusterfuck that it didn't leave them in a position to start work on a new game immediately.

7 would've never gotten off the ground if not for AC: Infinity. Aces scraped together a F2P PVP/Comp Co-Op game to show bamco execs that there was still even interest in Ace Combat. (Maybe if they stopped doing console exclusives they would have gotten more sales with 6 but publishers gonna publisher) and only with the revenue and player retention did aces get the greenlight for 7. Them not announcing 8 or even an AC:I 2 was giga retarded but maybe TGS will have something

i wonder what all those tweets from kono about working on an unspecified videgame with project aces staff, the footage of said staff recording fighter jet audio at an air force base, so on so forth means, guess its a mystery

I guess they don't want to repeat AC7 case of announcing things too early. Also with how the current industry works, studios tend to announce games close to release.

It's been in development for at least 5 years because they talked about it during the 25th anniversary

Of course, if Infinity was so good, why was it also a console exclusive, hmmmm!?

At this point the only explanation as to why Ace Combat continues to exist is because Kono is waging a private war with the Bamco shareholders and he'd do whatever it takes to make a new AC possible in any form.

Playing 22 right now and the wildest thing about it is that while it (or more accurately the preceding Air Combat) is clearly part of the foundation of Ace Combat proper, the pace and the emphasis on close in dogfight action actually reminds me a lot of what Assault Horizon was aiming for, as if it were a divergent evolution of what AC could have been.

I can't say for sure how it fares in Mach Storm (AH's arcade spinoff of sorts), but a lot of the dumb shit AH does makes way more sense as a quarter munching arcade game.

How hard is it to get licensing stuff for the jets?

Just like all beings will eventually evolve into crab, all jets will eventually evolve into Raptor. Also, chances are those are different jets, like the Su-57 or the Lightning II. A lot of 5th gen fighters out there are kinda copying what the Raptor did because it is a fucking monster. Also, iirc, there's only so many shapes that can help a jet hide its radar cross section while still being aerodynamic.

They're Raptors.
Each silhouette corresponds to the generally accepted iconic aircraft of a given AC protagonist, which yeah the Raptor is kinda over-represented on that front.

Ah.
I'm retarded, despite this being a literal ace combat thread, it didn't fall on my head that these were the AC protagonists...

The one thing I want to call shenanigans on is that it has Falco's Apalis, which is a kinda stupid deep cut while also showing zero respect for Phoenix's affinity for the XFA-27 which would help cut down on the Oops It's All Raptors problem.

It's because Raptors are the most beautiful jet of the modern era and everyone wants to be it.
