Watching the original japanese version of this.
Man I think this soundtrack is absolute fucking trash. Now I'm far from saying the US version is better, I just think this really could've benefited from a more dramatic or electronic based soundtrack rather than the usual Digimon fare of being simple and more upbeat. Otherwise dramatic scenes are kinda slashed a bit with what sounds like kiddy music which is a wild choice considering the direction Tamers goes.

I watched the original japanese version of Adventure 02 recently.

I had hoped that SOME of the garbage from the dub was the result of the dub, but no, it's still the same awful pile of shit.

Tamers isn't really that dramatic is the thing you're missing here. It's not like Code Geass where it's trying to drop bombs every episode. I'd say it's just generally dour. If the music didn't have at least a little life to it, the show would be totally flatline boring

Tamers is darker in Tone buts its not really that gritty, the soundtrack is fine an the vocal tracks are especially good. Your way of calling it "kiddy" is very telling.
