Wouldn't it steer viewers closer to the correct direction by calling it "80s OVA" style? I mean it was rare to see anything with that level of shading regardless, but it seems a lot closer to reality than associating it with 90's anime... specially because most people are going to assume you mean 90's Gundam. Which looked nothing like this.

It's pretty obvious that the fight in the short was inspired by 0083, but I agree with that anon, that kind of shading was more prevalent in the 80s. It also doesn't help that the novel came out in the 80s and the short uses character and mecha designs from it.

That was the decade of the AUs and Victory Gundam. They went too hard with trying to make the details pop and it fucked them up.
