It's the /m/alest game ever so far.
Picrel, my Falcon aka the closest thing you will get to a Flag or Macross variable fighter.

It's also not as p2w as previously thought, since all mechs are free and you only pay money for gooner skins for your custom pilot that you can pose in perverted fashion.

I'm liking it, I just ignore Mashmak because I hated it in the beta. So it feels pretty fair as a free to play game if you do that. I heard Mashmak is pretty pay to win though.

You don't need anything offsite to convince 4channers to erp in threads. There's a whole bunch of different communities I've stepped away from because they all slowly filled up with erp posters. No surprise it instantly hit on release here.
Unfortunately nothing has a middle ground anymore, you get prudish safe ugly designs, or you get camera mode korean mobile game posing with custom mole placement. I like pilot girls but not like this, man.

Anyway I keep trying the game out and every time I step away after a few rounds thinking maybe there's something good in there, but not like this. The game is even getting more class role focused after patches, and the one saving grace it had was that originally it felt more like a fairly even death match. I'm not playing another 6v6 with tanks and healers.

The game controls like a dream, it feels the best to play out of any mecha game I've played, including the Armored Cores. The biggest thing holding it back from greatness is those designs. The Break Strikers are just so fucking ugly it's unreal. The only one that looks anything better than below average is Narukami, the rest look super chinky like they were randomly thrown together for a mobile game. Yes yes, I know they were designed by real established mecha designers.

Like Welkin, Panther, Stellaris and Alysnes are all "the melee mech" but how they play is completely unique.

Skyraider and Falcon are both super fun. I do wish you could customize the mechs slightly - I'd kill for an autocannon on Skyraider instead of the clunky beam rifle.

Can I put a trap in a rubber suit yet? Last time I played I couldn't make the female model flat enough and I don't like the male outfit.

I bound transformation to my additional mouse buttons, basically all attacks are on my mouse buttons, all movement is still WASD. Only 'weapon' I kept was radar on Q because that's not always used BUT always used. Basically allows me to shoot with left mouse button, use missiles and other missiles with middle and right mouse button whilst keeping the thumb free to transform in and out at a moments notice.

I do admit the idea of a Mecha that is entirely based around being a "healing" support bot gives the game an impression of being more hero shooter than mecha action game. Not sure how you could balance a pvp mecha game where you select specialized mechs instead of making one yourself
Also the game just has so much bullshit part of the kit of many of the robots, Panther and Alysnes both have to carry shields but Stego and Welkin can just pull one out of their ass from thin air, gives the impression that it's just a magic ability given to them for balance and not something integral to the design.

Titanfall 2 did it decently well. Tone and Monarch were a bit overwhelming on some maps, but I never felt like I had to pick them too to keep up. The trick is to just make them all combat classes. Maybe some more defensive, assault, long range/short range, whatever, but no dedicated shield mechs and healer mechs.

The first beta for the game was better because shields and healing were weak enough that it wasn't a major gameplay element. It more felt like everyone was there to fight. Second beta turned it into tank on cart, healer welded to tank.

So am I the only one noticing that all the mech seem to be left handed? By that I meant that the main weapon usually always on the left hand.
I know that the reason that it is so is because the game was made for PC and since most userbase will be using keyboard and mouse, it is more visually intuitive to have the main weapon on the left side since left click is the default keybind for the main weapon.
I am just saying that it is rather unusual for a mecha game to do so. Perhaps I am just too used to Armored Core right handed weapon layout since that game was made with controller in mind.

Falcon can do a hell of a lot of burst damage with it's Aux 3, Aux 2, combo while mag dumping your target in flight mode.

it's squishier, yes, but being able to instantly break lock any time you do a loop-de-loop makes you very hard to hit if you know how to use flight mode properly.

You can get pretty intricate with the paint jobs in this game if you have the patience.

the tough part about falcon is that the bulk of its burst damage is gonna come from catching unsuspecting suits with a full salvo of your flight-form blue missiles, which is really hard to do in a close-range dogfight with someone since they need the perfect spacing to land, I find its best sometimes if you didn't get the drop on someone the first time to just disengage and come back when they've gotten bored of chasing you, falcon is slippery enough to evade every other suit on most maps

I also like the Skyraider. The charged shots are quite powerful and it has a lot of team utilities outside of pure DPS. Unfortunately, the enemy Panthers and Stellaris are usually laser focussed in killing you.
