I don't think the problem with gunpla is the amount produced. It's the awful way it's distributed in the west.
It feels like Bandai tries their hardest to make their product very hard to find.

It's probably more just deeply embedded apathy about western distribution. Even now, it's still something like 70% of all Gunpla sales being domestic, and 30% across the entire rest of the world. And 2/3 of that worldwide figure is still only within Asia
