The only reason I have any interest is because once Infinite Boost releases in arcades, the crack of the final Overboost version will start spreading and I can bother getting into the game again (because right now I don't wanna fuck version control - it's so much easier if we can just tell everyone who's interested in playing to grab the "final version" instead of some arbitrary patch).

Lord knows there's no hope of a home version because Bandai Namco are stubbornly shackling this game to the arcades despite the writing on the walls since they probably have no idea how to make up for the loss in revenue (can't jew your regular players out of hundreds of dollars a year if it's a one-time purchase).

>one-time purchase
They could try a F2P type system where you have to buy every mobile suit separately and get a few freebie options a week. I think that would be the worst possible scenario.

They tried a similar method with that experimental game Rise of Incarnates about 10 years ago.
>pick one character for free
>have to grind out or buy the rest
It flopped catastrophically. From Open Beta to EOS in less than 12 months.

The only formula I see working to supplant the loss of "ongoing revenue" is adding some kind of subscription fee to access various cool but non-essential features like custom pilots, custom UIs, titles, custom songs, etc.

All of the openings sucked. Even since the first one with Linkin Park.
They keep progressively getting worse that you would have thought there's no way a worse music song could come after this, and they surprise you.

Couldn't they just make it a subscription service like an MMO?

The problem there is the value proposition to your average joe. A subscription fee for basic access will bounce prospective players off the game faster than you can shake a stick at.
I think about this an unhealthy amount because I love the franchise dearly but hate how Bamco handles it.
Probably the most effective thing would be something like this:
>Every suit is free, unranked matchmaking is free, joining lobbies is free
>flat one-time fee (like $20-30) for access to single player modes (arcade routes and whatever arbitrary modes they come up with), ranked matchmaking, and the ability to host lobbies
>subscription fee (like $5-10 a month) for cosmetic customization options (per suit song/UI changes, alternate pilots, more titles, etc.)
>sell "premium" cosmetics separately for flat fees (fancy live2D navigators, sparkly UIs, anime song packs, etc.)

I'd say they could just keep adding shit in new 'seasons' like other fighters on the market. But when there's a zillion and one units already in the game that becomes far less lucrative and last time they tried a home only version it fucking sucked balls and failed so bad they went and finally unshackled Maxi Boost On.

The saddest thing is that it could have worked with Versus if they didn't straight up abandoned it after a few months. Bamco's problem is that they never think of long term support for anything and bail out for the next venture if it goes beyond easy money it's the reason why Gundam Evo and DBFZ died and why they would rather keep the series on arcades hell the main reason Maxiboost got a console release was due to covid.

What they should do is make a gundam breakers with multiplayer that plays like Gundam versus. That way the home version and the arcade version wont cannibalize each other, and people can finally play actual build fighters/divers.
