Gekiranger was a commercial failure and it even was retooled like Go-Busters, this was due Tsukada wanting more agile Mecha which resulted in the Mecha being cheaper. Goseiger and Go-Busters also didn't break 10 millions but weren't commercial failures.
What happened with Ninninger is that it was a really mediocre show during Yokai Watch's peak of popularity and just before Sentai's anniversary. Toei then tried to course correct hard after Ninninger which resulted on the opposite effect which lead to the middling period of Ninninger to Ryusoulger.

We can only assume that Fairy Tail caused the writer to leave during Q2 and then the show couldn't recover but that's still just an assumption.

Out of all the series pre zyuranger, I can definitely say Fiveman is one of the worst. Not *the* worst, that would be maskman. For all it's annoyances Fiveman does have some funny moments that lets it stand out and entertain whereas maskman was genuinely boring start to finish. Also, I wanted to fuck the TV the entire time she was on screen.
Only have turbo ranger and Jetman left to watch before I start watching the golden age of sentai.

Wow. Empress Juuza arc in Jetman is awesome. Cool intro and she feels like a real threat. Making crystals grow out of people to harvest their pain is a great body horror attack. Great plot for these episodes too. Made me like a couple characters I didn't like that much a lot more.
