don't knights have energy shields? also i feel their weapons are more overpowered
on the other hand, 'mechs are much faster and more maneuverable
one-on-one i think the knight beats and assault 'mech, but equal tonnage of mediums/lights could wolfpack a knight and wear it down

powerlevel faggotry is lame and something only 6 year olds would enjoy
the real question is who makes the better pizza

Battletech hands down. Imperial pizza would be mostly reshaped corpse starch.

Battletech's weapons are often understated because of the TT's limited ranges. They actually perform a lot better than many other scifi universes, to the point of some of them being fantasy

There are disclaimers every so often in the rule books that flat out admit that the abstractions are there to make tabletop fun to play, because lore accurate BT gets in the way of having an enjoyable tabletop game once you have to measure ranges not by map hexes, but map -sheets-.

This is also BT's general attitude towards everything in its portfolio: sometimes you just gotta do what works to make the given medium enjoyable, even if it steps on the toes of other portrayals.

glad they think like this because the game is incredibly fun and by far the thing most worth preserving
sure the books and vidya are neat but nothing tops classic battletech

Battletech still has actual companies making fantastic commercial goods at affordable prices. 40k has a standard food made out of people.

iirc someone mentioned that playing it at realistic ranges would require a tennis court.

tbf that's all tabletop games. Scale is always an abstraction. The same applies to warhammer. Warhammer has 36 inch stubbers, battletech has 3 hex machineguns, both are just funny numbers for the sake of a fun game.

unlike 40k or similar games, battletech is not to scale in any way (by design)
the hexes are abstractions of larger areas, the miniatures aren't to scale with the board or each other
the ranges are still short, but not as bad as they appear looking at a game

It's bad enough I believe that you couldn't run artillery without jumping through massive hurdles if the numbers were anywhere close to how far a Long Tom could reach out to.

But I forget if it was "the artillery player has to be at a separate table on the opposite side of the game store" bad or "the artillery player has to be at a different game store entirely and you literally have to call them to give strike orders" bad. Just that the numbers are really funny and make tabletop look silly if you try to convert.
