Hey i'm the wfm shitposter, and the netflix gundam show sucks.

Watching this right now.
All their faces are uncanny valley flat, lacking affect. The characters move lile flopping fish or marionettes. The english dub is also bad, emotionally flat. The lipsync is actually off-mark by up to a second in some places!
There's no intro explaining what is going on for people new to the franchise. By episode 4, the script has gone way off the rails. The whole thing is a bad commercial for Unreal Engine 5, saying it's good at producing still images of incredibly high detail and resolution, but is bad at motion.
I will say it does make the Gundam seem frightening, but the lack of established scale and skill of pilots makes the Gundam seem magically fast and the Zeon pilots comically slow.

hopefully we see more of this, it really felt like a machinima at times but that really isn't so bad in the grand scheme of things. It was a proof of concept production that showed a lot of potential.

Bandai clearly wants to make more gundam shows and sell new kits to people, but I imagine most of their animation team is busy on other projects. I hope they keep exploring with unreal engine 5 until they get it right. It's easy to look at somethings faults but I appreciate how they played with perspectives and were willing to experiment with new shots and angles. We haven't really seen much of that since they went away from hand drawn stuff nearly 30 years ago.

Scenes like the damaged zaku tank that couldn't rotate it's torso and the exposed crew were the kind of shots that you will never see in modern anime. It just costs too much for too little time. They used a lot of birds eye view and worms eye view coupled with POV shots as well. It adds a sense of perspective and size to it all. you just don't see that much in modern gundam.

They are neither. The Ggooks RX-78 Gundam is overdesigned trash, Gfred is a TEMU EVA and BBL Braw Bro looks like shit. The Doms looked like washing machines, the Gyans had dog dick lances, the Gelgoog looked like a worse version of the Camouf, and the Guncannons ripped off Coyote Tango from Pacific Rim which was already a derivative of the Guncannon. I will concede that the Zaku MP, The Psyco and Hambrabi were good. And before you even start typing that I must be deepthroating GReq because I criticized Gdooks designs those were also hot fucking garbage and has one of the ugliest forms of the Zaku ever made. Even Doan's Zaku has more appeal.

The general design is fine, but by god it easily has the worst OYW gundam head design out there. The face is so goddamn flat, as if they took the chinguard of the Ez8 and threw it under an iron. The Gquuuuuux is a pretty divisive design but at least it gets bonus points for not being the 27th RX-78 variant in the OYW.

Yeah it was a weird dynamic where the story and characters were pretty crap (and the human animation was VERY stiff and uncanny for a lot of scenes) but when it was time for battle scenes they really stepped it up imo.
