Any bipedal mecha would have the same issues as ED-209, treaded mecha are superior

Why the hell is a 50 ft robot with a jetpack enabling it to take massive leaps needing to walk up and down human sized steps?

Now, mobile suit designs as powered armour however...

>Legs can't use stairs
That's one of the few advantages legs have over wheels. Even robocop was able to use them fine. Even with ED-209s big feet he should have been able to use the entire surface area of the foot to cover multiple steps or tip toe on them.

I always find it fascinating when people try to draw lines of battle in mecha. Not everybody likes everything of course, but people who aren't very into mecha seem to think there's just a bunch of little isolated camps at war with each other.
The people that make this shit love everything. Bandai just hired Anno's rebuild studio to make a Gundam show. Armored Core is full of UC nods. Macross exists because of UC fans and the number one man behind it designed the GP01 and GP02. Battletech, the go-to 'western mecha' point of reference, got fucked over for trying to directly licence Macross designs and is still filled with references to it and other franchises all over the lore.
Patlabor beat everyone to the 'this is dumb and unrealistic' complaints while being a loving tribute to real robot instead of a smug repudiation.
It's been far too long since I was there myself, I'd love to see a cosmology of the mecha genre as drawn up by someone who isn't too into the mecha genre and says shit like this.

It's projection on their part. They want to be the eva-only fan that watches one thing and says it's the best and heh, actually, it owns you and is about how you are stupid!
Fortunately that stance is pretty much dead in the water so all they've got left is stuff like "armored core is more realistic than gundam!" and other nonsensical face-offs they try to prop up. They want a big subversion that owns the rest but there really isn't one, they came too late to the party. Everyone knows Anno likes gundam and that all the battlemechs were traced from anime. The connections are all understood now.

I mean, only a very small few Battlemechs are from anime in the grand scheme of the Battletech universe at this point, but overall I agree.

Why are so many threads like this now? Is it bots or something? Including replies.

If OP is arguing in good faith or not is irrelevant, it's just more interesting to talk about the statement made than pointing out the blindingly obvious fact it's a shitty attempt at trolling.

I also noticed but figured making a meta thread pointing it out would be in bad taste. It's obvious someone's trying to do some trolling but >>23390930 is right, there's at least some discussion to be had.

Even if they aren't the main set that was constantly front and center in the first ten years before the legal situation developed, the inspiration is still obvious and there's loads of elements running through the whole franchise that are only there because of its origins.

At the least it's clear enough that it's become decently embarrassing to wave it around as some symbol of american excellence, and even in their own spaces they'll usually inform people trying do it now.
