Ghost in the Shell, Angel's Egg, Patlabor, and Gosenzo-sama are all great anime. Some people would add Beautiful Dreamer but it isn't close. Anno has the original Eva series and EoE as his only great work. Too bad Kare Kano got sabotaged because it clearly improves on the source material.

Thinking about it, Oshii is probably the GOAT of anime directors. I'd say Takahata is second.
