If I were to guess, although no one from the production said this anywhere, the early Minmay songs were almost all written by others (excepting Cinderella); at first by the random unnamed managers she had, then probably Kaifun (in fact Ai wa Nagareru does sound a lot as something he would write). Part of her growing up is finding her own voice and singing her own music, which she finally does with Yayashisa Sayonara at the end of the series.
It even happens in the movie. Cinderella is her own, but everything else is just random crap she sings for the military. Then Ai Oboete Imasuka comes, which was written by protoculture and deciphered by Misa, and finally at the end of the movie Tenshi no Enogu plays, which is her own song (funnily enough both Cinderella and Tenshi no Enogu were written by Mari Iijima).

Hikaru words it very weirdly when he introduces Kaifun. At first he says, "Minmay's cousin... In other words, her uncle's son, is back after a long time away." One of the music producers for Macross 7 even admitted the show's ratings didn't matter after Fire Bomber's first album debuted at number 4 on the Oricon charts.
