Do you think a ground up redesign of Robotech character and mecha could salvage its multi-generational story? I think its story narrative is really good and I hate to see it be disregarded because it's an anime kitbash.

And then just replaced every instance of HBT in Mospeada with Protoculture while pretending it was the same stuff as the Protozor from Southern Cross. They couldn't afford to do that in the 80's and 90's, there's not a fucking chance they could do something like that now. The only way forward for Robotech would have been to soft-decanonize the Mospeada and Southern Cross parts(as in just ignore them completely and relegate them to the background), and just carry the Macross continuity forward by double branding Seven or Frontier as Robotech/Macross and releasing them with minimal changes in the west. The more complicated changes to the universe could be handwaved pretty easily considering the Macross expedition fleets angle. Just throw in a line somewhere that all these other Macross fleets are so far from earth they're entirely outside of the Masters/Invid stuff or any of the other shit brought up.

But that ships long since sailed and HG doesn't have the kind of Shaka Zulu money it once did to do more than cling to the Robotech IP as a passive income generator for chaff on streaming services.
