Is this human like design a practical design?

Probably not, but if you chase practicality down then sci fi gets really boring. You just accept the suspension of disbelief.

Nah, but its fine.
Mobile Suits have just enough in universe justification to roll with it, but no mechs would probably be chicken walkers with internal weapons instead of all the bullshit of mobile suits.
Battlemechs from Battletech (post Macross, OG art era) are probably closer to what would be reality with minovsky particles.

is the zaku 2 itself the most realistic or partial design? probably not
but humanoid mechs make sense an the series has shown this off. even the head makes sense as an elevated camera and ciws

In a world of radar jamming Minovsky particles? Yes.

Form should come after function, but form should not be omitted entirely either. If you're going to make a robot, make it look cool.

No, but it's cool so who gives a fuck. A "practical" mech design is just a brick or ball with missiles, missile interception systems, and a fuck ton of thrusters and that's both lame and gay.

Zeon's only "practical" designs would be most of their amphibious suits, especially ones like the Z'gok because of their performance in water and above ground combined with their on board weapons instead of relying on secondary guns

>Izubuchi design supremacy btw

>instead of relying on secondary guns
There's nothing more realistic about a giant robot that has internal guns than external guns. Especially when the external ones can be swapped out, can be larger than the limb dimensions, reloaded more easily, or supported with both limbs.

When you got a super powerful energy source that's too big for a tank and too small for a battleship- yes, kinda. but only in that case.

Yes because mechs as evolution of tanks and aircraft would have handheld guns.
Why not just make the gun itself the platform then, as all tanks/aircraft etc are.
Secondary weapons are not practical in a military survivablity sense.

If you're gonna have mechs, play to their few strengths. It's for no one's benefit to just make them crappier versions of existing things. Finding your own doctrine for mechs that isn't aping something else is half the fun.
