What’s your favourite shin movie so far?

Probably Godzilla since it felt like a different version. Ultraman and Kamen Rider were enjoyable but they didn't really do anything different from the old Showa shows.

Shin Godzilla might be a better movie, but I think I just like Ultraman more. Also had a good balance between referencing the original series and original elements.

Shin Kamen Rider really messed up the start of the movie by rushing the origin. It pretty much assumes audiences are already into Kamen Rider, which is a big mistake, IMO. It's also odd how close it stays to the original in some aspects, but then goes to completely Anno created plot points various core parts of the movie, like Japanese secret service Taki and Tachibana with no real ties to Hongo rather than trying anything close to their original characters.

Even direction-wise it just from rough practical effects or CGI mimicking the original to just complete CGI like the "Dragonball" style air battle between Rider 1 and 2.

Shin Eva was initially a flashier but emptier version of the original series, then it becamme just a directionless mess when going on its own path. Still had some good moments, in the 4th movie, but I feel like the messages it pushed often clashed with themselves.

I'm baffled by how much people liked Shin Ultra, the way Ultraman is portrayed doesn't make it feel like he actually likes humans that much (rendering the scene with Zoffy hollow) and the movie has neck beaking pace yet still loses a lot of time on fetish shit.

It's a 6/10 movie at most.

At this point I was like fuck it I'm with it. But the beginning where they're all at travelling and at the farm was legitimately beautiful.

I loved Shin Kamen Rider a lot too. Incidentally it had a ton of train track scenes like the part I mentioned in Evangelion.

I think Godzilla is the clear winner as an overall film. Ultraman and Kamen Rider are two of the best things either property has to their name, though, and were a huge breath of fresh air.
