Production IG most recently worked on Shinkalion: Change the World, and Shinkalion has always been a sort of loving albeit less grim homage to Shinkalion. There are even several crossovers: in the movie, in the TV series, and in Shinkalion Z. In Shinkalion Z, Gendo tells the protagonist to, "Get in the Shinkalion" and the protagonist says, "Oh, I WILL get in the robot..."
