Sure, the Federation was never truly good but every subsequent work after 079 has downplayed,excused and glorified zeon's bullshit, while retconning more and more Federation atrocities in. Now the franchise is pure Zeonwank and Fed shitting.

2. Zeon fanboys have existed for as long as the franchise has, if anything I'm surprised it took forty-five years for a pro-Zeon show to come out.

3. It's a western work, and the whole point of this project was to give westerners a shot and let them make a Gundam show from a different perspective. Remember that the last time they allowed westerners to touch their franchise, we got G-Saviour.

4. It wasn't even that pro-Zeon, and you must have brain problems if you think it is. Even in the original, Tomino never portrayed Zeon as completely ruthlessly evil. The top level leadership were worse obviously, and by default they were the antagonists due to being the opponents of the titular Gundam. But 0079 only ever showed the colony drop in passing, and colony gassing was never even a thing, plus a nuke was only ever actually used once. But by and far the rank-and-file Zeon soldiers weren't much different from the White Base crew. Zeon atrocities were for the most part expanded on in later works and not all that present in 0079.

5. Unicorn was a lot more pro-Zeon than this.

I don't really see how OP was overreacting. Their assessment is pretty reasonable and level headed.

I don't get why/how this was made either. It's a really weird niche story to tell when you're trying to gain new audiences with an international co-pro. It just feels like a particularly bad Igloo season with more up to date CG. Nothing in it feels inspired enough to justify animating. At least Igloo had cool experimental designs.

I absolutely never understood what was up with those. A lot of the more stylised animation they went with either looked good or you could see what they were going for, but I genuinely do not know why the fuck the Zeon landers moved like that.
Shame too, because the general idea of the EFGF setting up a defensive position and trying to delay the first waves of the landing force is really cool. I hope something on-screen tackles that first landfall again some time.

That's how the average Zeon works, really. They were told the Federation was oppressing their rights, so they took up arms under the Zabis and got to fighting. They literally think they're some heroic rebel force fighting the evils of a facist regime that is putting the boot down on spacenoids, with the hype for the battle helping obfuscate that nobility is carting them off to their demises for petty power plays.
Does RoV play it rather unironically? Yeah, a bit, you can tell the creators were kind of idiots with the idea, but it really isn't far off the mark for the extreme idealism any zeek would actually have for their side, if the One Year War didn't break them already.

This was a great project that dud everything it set out to do. The only downside is the horrible English voice acting. Even though the lip movements don't match, the Japanese audio track is far superior.

Don't sleep on this. It's actually quite good. Feels like a World War II film with mechs.

The biggest problem is the suits like like shit and their proportions are all off. Like the EX gundam looks ok, the head is a little too small, but the Zeon suits are just horrific.
