Is Rahxephon any good? I'm willing to watch it because I heard it's somewhat similar to Evangelion.

It's alright, but the likeness to Eva is pretty surface level. I'd recommend Eureka Seven over it, though.

It's good. It tends to get dismissed as an Eva clone because the main plot beats towards the end of the show are similar to Eva.

It has its own vibe, and I find most of the cast to feel way more human/developed than the cast of Eva, so that makes it easier to watch IMO.

Also, the mecha design is pretty interesting in general; def has its own aesthetic.

I'd def recommend giving it a try

I don't like Evangelion for much the same reason, but Rahxephon is much worse in this regard, especially with how, unlike Evangelion, it's not even being derivative that's actually good, and ultimately instead of using its obtuse narrative in a clever way (Eva using it to mirror its theme of the difficulty humans have of truly understanding each other), Rahxephon is ultimately about a tortured romance that isn't even apparent for the first twenty episodes or so

It's good, one of the better mecha shows ever in my honest opinion. I feel like it's disrespectful to compare it to Eureka Seven. Just don't expect Eva level cinematography and you'll be good.

I wouldn't say Eva is even doing that desu or would call its narrative obtuse. I think RahXephon has a lot more betting on the mystery of the setting and relationships between characters. A major part of Eva's narrative is repetition and it's most notably reflected in Shinji's character arc where it's stop and go, one step forward and stop steps back repeatedly. A kind of an inertia and perpetuating cycle of dysfunction. A really cool thing Eva does is repeat scenes but add new dialogue and editing that imparts further or new meaning to the initial scene, particularly towards the end. I don't think RahXephon is as self-conscious a project as Eva.

"Off brand Eva" is how it's portrayed and its true to a degree, but it's fantastic in its own right. If I had to rank my favorite animes it'd be just one spot below Eva, because tie goes to the better OP. Eva's is the GOAT while Rahxephon's is MERELY an all timer

I just finished warching Eureka Seven for the first time and you might want to give it another go because it seems like something you can appreciate in different ways when you're older.

I just thought it was really fun and loved the characters. During the 2nd part of the show I thought maybe everyone was too shitty to each other but it had some great stuff and character backgrounds and everyone became better friends and matured in the last arc. The scifi shit about too many lifeforms causing a black hole was the only thing that bothered me but then I read about the book it's based on. Also I fucking love stories about communicating with weird alien races because I grew up with Star Trek
