It just getting stuck at "Initializing..." when joining the server. Others see my pony popping into the server during that.
If I use EO Cli instead, it successfully logs-in, clears screen as usual but then doesn't show welcoming message and sending messages or commands like /who returns nothing. It just shows "---------------------" and nothing else.

Hmm, if your character is showing up in-game, that means the connection must be mostly succeeding. I'm not sure what would cause it to get stuck at that point. Are there any errors in the browser dev tools / javascript console?

As a workaround, if you can set your VPN endpoint to somewhere near Montreal, it should be nearly as fast as a direct connection.

There's never been an attempt to make a tabletop skirmish game ruleset for mlp, has there? I feel there's enough potential for it, especially now with all the different races introduced throughout the show's run

This looks like the error you get when you refresh the page. Can you try the following procedure:
1. Open a new tab
2. Go to http://play.everfree-outpost.com/
3. Open the dev tools
4. Click on the "v1 server" link
And then post as much of the javascript console output as you can

Honestly I'm not sure I'll be able to debug this, unless there's something really obvious in the logs. Since it works on VPN with the same browser, my guess would be that there's something wrong with your internet connection. Only thing I can think of to try right now is to clear the cache and cookies for play.everfree-outpost.com (and especially clear localStorage and IndexedDB, which I think is included in browsers' "delete site data" option nowadays).

That works! But only once per cleared cache... I can successfully connect after clearing cache but re-opening browser with same cache results in getting stuck at "Initialization..." again. If I clear cache again, I can connect one time more.
Also its not very reliable either, sometimes it works, sometimes it DOESN'T and I had to wait hours before it worked again.
Also EOcli obviously still doesn't work.

I don't see any major errors in those logs. Both include the message "set scale to 2", which means the Rust code is running properly. It looks like the first place where the two diverge is before the message "building UI" (present in the good log but not the bad one), which is printed once the client receives a "ready" message from the server. So I guess that message isn't getting through. But the connection can't be fully blocked, since the earlier login steps have to succeed before you get to that point.

Here are two more things you could check:
1. When the login process gets stuck, what is the readyState on the websocket? To see this, open the javascript console and enter "OUTPOST.asm.ba.G.inner.readyState" (without quotes). It should respond with a number - 1 is good, all other numbers are bad.
2. In the dev tools network tab, are there any errors with the websocket request? This should have a URL ending with "/ws"

One thing that's strange in the logs:

The launcher has some fallback code for when this fails, so it's probably not the immediate cause of the issues you're seeing, but it is strange - this feature is supposed to be fairly well supported:

Are you using a particularly old browser version? Or possibly an addon that blocks certain javascript features? IIRC people have had trouble in the past with Firefox's "enhanced tracking protection" mode.

I tried with Firefox Nightly but I wasn't able to reproduce the bug. At this point I'm basically out of ideas.

If you want to try debugging more yourself, I'd suggest hacking eo-cli to print the websocket messages sent and received (both encrypted and unencrypted versions), and compare the logs with VPN and without. Also be sure to record if you get a decryption or handshake error from the crypto library (even though that would be very unusual).

Huh, well, good thing I added that fallback case, because apparently this has been broken for years.

Also, what a bizarre decision from the standards committee. The SubtleCrypto API is only a convenience - almost everything it does can be implemented just as well in WASM or Javascript, if you're willing to go to the trouble. The only thing you can't replicate is getRandomBytes. But wait:

I want to make platformer game but I am confused about how I should go around with the collision under pony's head.
If I make it solid square then she could be standing on air. If I remove her head from collision then it will feel weird why her head doesn't take damage.

A rough hitbox that doesn't encompass the sprite has been the standard for most 2d platformers. Parts of your character not taking damage is going to "feel" better for the player.
Just look up hitboxes for popular 2d platformers, you'll see what I mean.

Anon, hitbox/hurtbox not matching the visual has been normal practice since forever.
Sometime on purpose for balance reasons, often not on purpose for "fuck it, need to release" reasons.
Fighting games can even be recognized by their specific style of "fuck it" with hitboxes, doesn't stop them from being playable.

Either use two boxes (one of the body, one for the head), or make a single large one that doesn't include the face but include the empty space behind it - the vast majority of players won't realize it, as it's already how most platformer approximate things.

Having different hitboxes for different collision type is also a semi-standard trick.
iirc the first super mario game used a regular-ass rectangle hitbox for most stuff, but a weird collision point system for roof collision so mario wouldn't bang his head in the "void" part of the sprite and would behave like a more rounded shape for those situations - making jumping between two block from under not require pixel-perfect alignment.

Give the head it's own hitbox, but have it only collide with walls & attacks, not grounds so she can't hang from her chin.

Bunch of low poly ponies for a mod, think I'm sitting at 400+ if we count unique outfits and variants. Been a three year undertaking thus far.

I'm trying to do better on manes as that's my weakest area as of right now. Anybody have some tips? These all sit at <1k tris so nothing obscene like subsurf, just simple low poly stuff. I've recently begun to try out modeling out different parts of the mane and then using knife intersect and then going in to fix and fine-tune any junk from the results of it.

at first with the Nonaverse comic ("Fruit...Ninja?") i was doing one-off pages without a long term story in mind, so it was more about cute poses and slice of life. also back then i had never drawn full comics like this before. got more of a story idea now and getting a better feel for the process though.

for the legmare comics it started as sketchbook doodles for a daily draw chat. after a month or two i started attempting making it into ink comic pages for the first time with a dip pen and watercolor paper. so the initial pages on the boorus are sort of out of nowhere, and the first inked pages are rough, but the new pages are now with color and better inking, and the story is beginning to develop

Give me a 7 year rundown on /create/ AKA TEMPO. Specifically for game devving and software. There were some people in the fandom like the creator of Dragon Mango who tried to make a metroidvania game in Flash and another one who attempted a game called Everfree Chronicles but nothing came of them.

(1) I have added all G4 songs that were localised in French to the folder "k - Other Languages (Foreign Dubs)", which make up 308 audio files in total; they were edited in the same way the German soundtrack was edited before.
(2) I have added 297 different recordings from songs from My Little Pony live shows to the folder "g - My Little Pony Live Show Songs", which include recordings of songs that are in some way unique to G4 or which were edited or sung/covered in a different way to how they appeared in animated G4 media.
(3) All remixes from the newly released album "DJ Pon-3 Presents: The Remixes Vol.3" were added to the collection.
(4) I have added 4 vocal adaptations of IDW comic songs to the folder "f - My Little Pony IDW Comic Song Adaptations".
(5) 19 new pieces of background music were added to the BGM folder of 1.1 & 1.2 - Friendship is Magic.
(6) Other inconsistencies in the metadata of some audio files were corrected and I have added some new audio files to some Extras folder.

Sup anons, I want to get into plooshmaking but have hit a bit of a roadblock. I have some patterns and a reasonable grasp of basic sewing, I just dont know how to approach the embroidery aspect for stuff like eyes and CMs. Should I just find someone with a machine on Etsy and send them a png of what I want made or are there sellers with premade ones? Machine embroidery is a different beast than buying embroidery services. I'd recommend focusing on your patterns and getting a good shape over embroidery.
You can make "applique" aka just sew the colors in the shapes you want. big white eye circle, black eyelash, pupil, eye color, stitch on top of each other, then sew it on.
(applique is probably the wrong word but you get what I mean)

I have decided to make the ultimate, show-accurate pony puppet in Toon Boom Harmony. It will be a full 360 rotating rig, whose drawings are traced over the leaked Flash show puppets for maximum accuracy. This effort will likely take months of work, but I know I have the resolve to see it through, and I have spent months on pony projects before. Once it is complete, I intend to share it for anyone to use.

I will start with the standard mare body type. Specifically, I am starting with Rainbow Dash because she has the same eyelashes and eye shape as many background mares, so her head works well as a generic reference. I may eventually create puppets for standard fillies and stallions too, but that is a long way off. As long as I do not run into any technical issues, I will set up the puppet in such a way that it is easy to mix and match hair styles, eye styles, colors, accessories, and cutie marks so you can design your own mare, or simply select a specific character from the show with a master controller to automatically configure the puppet as that character.

I will post updates whenever I reach a good milestone. Pictured here is a rendering from an older puppet of mine.

I’ve been wanting to work on an animated pony music video for years. The song’s about 4 minutes long, and I’ve got a rough idea of how it could go. I’m mostly into 3D modeling in Blender, modeling, UV unwrapping, and texturing is where I’m solid. But I don’t have much experience with complex animation, lip sync, or advanced rigging, which is obviously gonna matter for something like this.

So I guess the question is:
Is it dumb to try and kick off a collab like this when I’ve never finished a full project at this scale?

Not trying to be an idea guy. I can handle the modeling, static assets, and some basic animation and rigging. Just probably gonna need help with the trickier stuff. A proper storyboard or animatic would help a lot with figuring out what needs to be built and animated.

The project’s still really open ended. If you’ve got ideas for scenes, visuals, whatever, you can go for it.

My PC is dead right now, so I can’t actually start work yet, but I wanted to float this out there and maybe find a few people who’d be into it or have some advice. Not needing pros, if you’ve got skills in rigging, animation, or storyboarding and just want to help out a bit, that’s more than enough.

Don't worry about an embroidery machine. First focus on making a pattern and sewing it. You can do basic applique eyes when starting/for practice. You're also more likely to rent time on an embroidery machine than buy one outright. They are extremely expensive.

I have a question for more experienced writers, because I've been encountering a blockage recently.

Context: I've been writing a CYOA recently. The first thread went on for month, but the second only lasted a few days until I woke up to it archived. I feel like the reason engagement died was because there was a major event coming up, and instead of writing it, I started stalling on something pretty mundane because I was struggling to think of how to pull it off in a satisfying manner. I think it killed engagement. In spite of all the foreshadowing I've created for ponies and places I want to get to, the crow area has so far been the majority of the CYOA's runtime.

The actual question: How do you usually overcome that sort of mental barrier and make sure that the story progresses? The best option I can think of is "stop caring and just make it happen, even if it sucks," but one issue with CYOAs is that you can't really revise things later on.

Maybe I'm just asking the wrong question, though. The issue is probably right behind me, screaming at me to notice. That or I'm hyper-focusing on trying to explain something that was actually just poorly timed bad luck. Should I just hiatus the CYOA and come back when I've actually written shit rather than run a story off of bullet points? At first I was hoping it wouldn't be obvious that I'm inexperienced, but then I sort of ended up doing everything that makes it obvious one is a first timer.

legmares can jump and flip super acrobatically. they hop a lot to get around. to grab things they usually either have to hold with their mouths or sit down in/on something and grab with their hoof. There's also this they can do which is unlike normal ponies:

There's plenty of free patterns on the list, make sure their makers are okay for commercial use of them. Just start making them. Regular sewing machine is quite enough. Get the shape right. You don't even need embroidery machine for that, just start with applique eyes. All the time you're figuring for embroidery should go into getting basics of sewing down. You will soon notice that it's fucking hard work and think about it again.
Also please make nostrils and mouths to your ponies. They want to breath and smile too.

The minky most people are using is one specific brand, Shannons Cuddle 3 -minky. It's bit stretchy but not too much, like when you stuff your plush it stretches little and takes form but doesn't balloon out like some unknown brand minky I've been trying. I think Shannons name comes from the pile which is 3mm long, so that's your ballpark. I know only euro shops who sell that stuff, so if you're amerifriend I sadly can't help you with that.

Sorry, I've been busy with mare fair prep.
I really like my dedicated embroidery machine because I can sew while it works. The quality of my used Janome 550e's work is drastically better than my brother SE600 too. A lot of annoying embroidery problems just vanished when I made the switch.
The brother SE600 and newer variants are a good all-in-one solution to start you off, but I jumped to a better embroiderer as quick as I could. Combo machines come at a premium and my SE600 can sew regular stitches well enough.

Shannon minky cuddle 3 is the current gold standard for plush, but you need to use a lot of pins. Amazon is now full of bad knockoffs and half the colors. Howl fabric can be slow but they have the best selection (when in stock)
Use a triple stretch stitch on high strain areas.
Making a pattern from scratch is difficult but just work on one part at a time and build off failures. It took me 3 months and countless failures.

Experimenting with food in my game. Each item of food has a calorie value, which are then burned off at different rates depending on if your pony is standing, resting, galloping, etc.. Unnecessary? Right now totally, but the basic idea is to eventually have buffs gained from food, so that when you get 100 calories from an apple, that's like approximately 30 minutes or however long it takes to burn them off that your pony can gallop faster or buck harder or whatever.

Update #1 on the Toon Boom puppet

I ended up using Starlight Glimmer for the head reference instead of Rainbow Dash, because she too has those same, "standard" mare eyes, but also has a horn.

While gathering and preparing references, I discovered some annoying inconsistencies and "wobbliness" in the official Flash puppets. For example, the eyes change size in a way that doesn't make sense as the head rotates. In some places, the positions and angles of the horn and ears are inconsistent with a 3D rotation, and the head tilts of the front, 3/4 and 3/4-back views don't all tilt the same amount. It bothered me enough that I decided to tweak the official puppets to make the head rotation look "better". Of course, this comes at the cost of not being perfectly show-accurate anymore, which was one of my original goals. Oh well. I think it's still close enough.

There is another challenge with show-accuracy. The position of the horn and ears can be slightly different from character to character. I think the puppet designers did that intentionally, to make them work better with each character's mane. I strongly prefer to reuse the same exact head for every character, though (with the exception of swapping out the eyes), so I won't make those adjustments.

Pictured here are the original and modified head turnarounds and tilts, rendered in Flash. Now that I have some good, internally consistent references, I can finally start drawing the head in Toon Boom.

I enjoyed the atmosphere greatly, good music and the graphics are tasteful, I liked the hoofsteps in the snow. The music choices were very good and fit the areas well. I liked that there wasn't any dialogue or explanation. Overall, an evening well spent on a surprisingly good game.

Now, the combat is strange. Specifically the cave mare boss is way too hard. The controls said I was supposed to unlock magic and guarding at some point but by the point I was in the cave mare arena I couldn't even get out, the door was locked behind me. Every time I died to the boss the camera got stuck in anon's head and I had to quit, which caused losing the keys. The magic tornados were also confusing, and the boss had difficult to decipher animations and inconsistent hitboxes. Shit's harder than malenia. The pride I felt when I took down that cave mare after an hour was great.

The bone traps made me want to kill myself. Shield didn't seem to protect filly very well so I didn't use it, since I didn't understand how it worked. Resetting to the bridge guard didn't take down the invisible barrier.

The bridge guard was a great fight, even without the using the shield. 20 minutes to beat it, felt relatively balanced, though the storm clouds didn't seem to do any damage.

The lyra goons were harder than the bosses, they just machine gunned me down.

Now the final boss: really fun. Exciting entrance. Jumping over the flame 5 point attack is amazing. That telekinetic throw was unfair, until I learned the shield is a toggle, the icon is too small. The reveal of at half health bar was frightening. 3 hours just on this boss.

The thunderbolt spell is kinda bad compared to the melee attack, except for lyras. I didn't use it a single time against final boss, the health drain was too big a drawback, and it was too hard to aim.

The ending made all the pain and suffering worth it. Fascinating ending that makes you feel something fierce.

I would love this game much more if movement, camera and combat were just more polished, it would be the best pony game.

I really had a lot of fun with this. It's obvious a lot of effort went in, and even with the issues i mentioned it was 100% worth playing. I really hope you keep working on this.

The effect you want is called "normalize". It raises the volume of a waveform to the maximum it can go without peaking. No compression, just safely raising the gain. Since 0dB is clipping you want to set to like -0.1dB
