Many of the altbooru owners post in thread and listen to questions and comments from anons. Note that this is NOT the Derpibooru drama general. Happy to report that FoalFetch is mostly back up. The site is deployed to the new server, all the data from FimFarchive up to March 2025 is imported, and everything seems to be working. Last thing to do is to get HTTPS set up; it will take like 5 minutes, I'm just not at a computer with access to the server, but I will be soon.

It's mostly bots and the general consensus is that their operators hire Indians to complete any captchas, which makes it difficult to completely block. It could be a government (there are many of them) doing a low effort fishing attempt. It could could be someone trying to do a black mail thing. Or it could be someone actually trying to sell it. Although I'd wonder how they haven't been vanned by this point considering it's been going on for years all across the web. But the sad reality is that if you have a site that accepts any form of user media, it is a problem you will need to deal with eventually. This is something you just don't even think about until you open up a website yourself. It's why moderators and jannies are needed because automated tools just can't cover it all.

I've implemented a Bayes classifier (the same thing that a lot of older email spam filters use) to try and filter spam on PonePaste. If you don't have an account and you post a paste the system thinks is spam, it won't let you. We'll see how it performs in practice. Thanks a ton to the PonePaste jannies for helping me train the spam filter by marking existing pastes as spam/not.

I briefly looked through the document and it reminds me of anon's idea to create a timeline of everything pony, but his efforts were more focused on the past rather than present. I'm not sure if there's benefit in aggregating current media (why not just visit multiple websites?), while there's definitely a reason to attempt archiving pony past wherever it happened. Recommendations for relevant things to what you viewed were also a topic anon thought about, to give context to the past.
As for social media aspect - not sure if I personally need that. /mlp/ and bunker chans work well for their own brand of forum posting, if I wanted a pony social media I'd create an account on pone.social because it's Mastodon, and already has some cool pony people.

Anyone with SQL knowledge? I'm trying to do some query optimization. Specifically regarding gathering the total number of results for a query (for pagination). For this example query, I am generating a large result set and using OFFSET, LIMIT and ORDER BY to get the last 25 items from this result set. Using COUNT OVER to generate the total amount of results takes 3 seconds whereas if I do not count the total number of results it takes 1 second. This seems a bit odd to me as even omitting the COUNT OVER, it still has to enumerate the same number of items for the OFFSET. So why should it take so much longer? Is there a better way to count results? Is there something I'm missing?

Failing a better solution for the above, it would be nice if I could avoid needing the total on all queries. Realistically I'd just need to know if there's enough results to fill the next 4 pages of results or so. I could just have a link to the "last" page and then calculate what the last page would be only then. It would be alright if this request for the last page took a little longer than the rest as it wouldn't be used nearly often, probably. For the next few pages of results the best thing I can think of would be to increase my LIMIT by 4x or so, to see if results extend that far and then just dump all the results after the page I'm interested in. This feels wasteful, but performance wise there's not really much of an impact between generating results for 1 page vs 4. The real problem would be calculating the last page in a way that doesn't take a super long time. Best I can think of for this at the moment is to do a query to get the total number of results, then calculate the final page and OFFSET, LIMIT info, then do another query for the actual results. I have not tested this final bit, but I think that this would effectively effectively double the query time (for two queries) unless DB caching manages to make a big difference.

Advice would be appreciated. I've been thinking about this too much for the past few weeks. Yes this is pony related.
