That's like saying Fluttershy's personality was "still the same" because she never fully got over her anxiety. She improved a lot over time. Her narcissism was significantly toned down, it became more like a minor character gimmick rather than something pervasive like how it was in BB. She was also friendlier in general. BB Trixie probably wouldn't have gotten along well with Sunburst or pulled Maud Pie in for a group hug.

I genuinely love Trixie. I think shes only mean because she has to put up a front. She's been run out of town more than a couple times, so she's grown tired of the hurt. In order to distance herself from people, she plays a couple steps ahead and makes people dislike her, intentionally. Which isn't hard, with her character how it is, all she has to do is not hold back her ego. I would love to see her vulnerable, and unafraid, I like her in the later season more than ever actually cause you actually get to see different sides the her than the bad bitch show pony who dont need no man. Now for a self insert ship, she's definitely a challenge. It's not about I can fix her, in this situation it's about who can dominate who first and set the precedent. Do you want to make her someone she's not? Get her to act nicey nice, or even stay in one place for once? You'll be comfortable, but she won't get to be the person she wants to be, and in the end it'll make her miserable, and resentful...or, if you can bear it...so you ride around on her coat tails, pulling her cart for her, kissing her feet...all in the name of her fanciful dream of being a magician, in a world where magic is common practice. There should be 1 episode in seasons four and five with just her and be split into one where she overcomes her fears and one where she improves her unicorn abilities. when season 6 comes around, she should meet starlight glimmer and when trixie learns of her relation with twilight she should get extremely jealous that her only friend is twilights pupil and try to separate them from each other leading to another conflict where twilight and trixie have a final showdown and starlight glimmer would have to choose between the two. Starlight would then choose twilight and betray trixie and help starlight defeat her and turn her to stone with a very dramatic ending. Later on she should be freed by discord and be turned into one of the antagonists in the last season where they tried to take over equestria.

To be fair Starlight had the benefit of having several episodes to setup her redemption while Shimmer's was squeezed into a single movie, but there just wasn't any meat to Shimmer's since she was such a generic villain.
