I've been writing a fic that mostly centers around Spike. I say mostly because although we follow his adventures, the story is really about Twilight and the others learning how to not take others for granted. The ponies learn that love can easily become neglect without awareness. They learn the importance of understanding, that no soul is greater than or less than themselves. It's really fun to write. It's violent and ugly at first, but it builds the foundation to a stronger bond by tearing down the old broken one first. Not even the princesses are safe from learning the true meaning of understanding. By the end, every pony and drake alike are left with a bond tighter than ever thought possible.

I want to write a fanfic where Spike gets over Rarity. Here's the premise:
>Twilight finally realizes that Spike's crush on Rarity isn't something he'll grow out of, and becomes worried that he'll try to push things and get Rarity in trouble. Twilight writes to retired Celestia for advice, and Celestia's solution is to ask Luna to handle it.
But I'm not sure what kind of nightmares Luna should plague Spike with (for his own good). What should Spike experience?

The idea's that Luna's showing him that he needs to let go of his feelings for Rarity or he'll end up hurting himself and his loved ones.
