If the UVs of the polymare are well made, everyone could just quickly put on some quick colors that represent their pony (or their friend's) in any of the 2D programs, even in fucking MS Paint and then just apply the resulting texture to the polymare.

TECHNICALLY this would all be possible as a group effort but not sure if there's enough demand for that event. Also I guess it would also mean the polypopen model would have get turned transferable so the edit made by others can be sent to the popen who will eventually do all the hiding.

SL's worst fucking bottleneck is shadows enabled. Second worst are long view distance, then ambient occlusion and all the other visual gimmicks.
If you turn all that off and set view range to like 80m you can super easily get 60fps on even a midrange pc. Sometimes even 150+ fps which is a complete waste though in most cases. Remember, the higher your fps, the harder your pc/laptop has to work which means more heat, higher energy usage (money, especially if beefy gaming rig) and more wear. Who the fuck would voluntarily shave months or years off of their RTX4080 just so they can sleep around the campfire while their PC is cooking hot churning out +100fps? Try the limit fps setting at like 30 or even 15fps and be surprised how nice and cool your pc will run.

The smartest thing is to make a couple graphics profiles and then switch on the fly between them. For example one with limited fps for just chatting or other comfy moments and one with all bells and whistles disabled and all fps unlocked for when you actually need all the frames you can get for example while hoofballin
