As you likely know, IRL horses can have varied coat coloration, patterns and dappling. Because the M6 are quite uniformly designed in the show, fan redesigns tend to go in the other direction. They're made intentionally very distinct from each other, as well as their show designs, in shape, color, pattern, etc.
I believe those two factors have mixed together, alongside the somewhat recent trend of adding vitiligo to everything, with the outcome being these sorts of redesigns. This isn't the case for all of them, of course.
