I think that's the common headcanon. And I assume Twilight is the youngest and a "teen" (18-19) like OP said because she's a student.

They're just adults, that's all there is to it. They've been alive the same amount of time as 18+ year old humans in our world. It doesn't matter what Lauren Faust's initial idea was. They don't age faster and years don't go by faster on equestria. They're just adults.
