>>42266982I actually think the episode had a pretty shit moral lesson in its conclusion. It was already Season 8 or 9, they could've legitimately done a moving away episode because the writing was on the wall for the series as a whole at that point.
I know it was already partially done in Babs Seed, but I think the lesson could've been an earnest "You can move away, while maintaining connections. But it's important to try new experiences that can give you a chance to learn or grow." Because I think that's way more important to kids, because for kids moving away can be scary, but necessary for a family. It's also way more true that you can stay friends since I'm pretty sure every kid had a smartphone by then, no more letters like Babs got. I know Scootaloo was stuck between two (or more) people who genuinely cared for her, the CMC, her parents, even the aunts. Even if we didn't see much of the connection she had with her parents in a wider sense in the episode it's definitely love, a hard choice between the two, not like she's just being dragged away by people who don't care. Keeping Scootaloo around meant what? They could do the stupid wishing plant episode? Having Scootaloo stay in a place where she's comfortable kind of goes against the CMC's goals anyway doesn't it? Both the original trying new things CMC as well as the helping ponies get their Cutie Marks. I think it could've been a chance to show us Scootaloo as strong, besides, they could still ship her back in for a visit, talk about cool adventures.
Then instead of the wishing plant episode her moving back could open up an episode with the moral "How to properly process when you feel like your friends are maturing while you're not", Apple Bloom or Sweetie Belle getting jealous at Scootaloo, which is more fertile ground for a story. Or they could do another growing apart, friends with different interests trying to relearn why they're friends episode like they were so fond of.
