Why did Derpy catch so much flak for being disabled instead of Scootaloo? Maybe because parents of down syndrome/tards get much more offended then say a parent with a kid that's paralyzed below the waist. Either way, disabled ponies are canon.

The only problem I have with crippled Scootaloo is that the show gives multiple solutions to the problem. Like, we canonically have spells that can give flight capable wings to unicorns and earth ponies, and we see RD throw together a device to allow Tank to fly, so why the hell would it be impossible for Scootaloo? It's not a bad idea in isolation, it just doesn't make sense in the actual show since we see multiple ways that it could be fixed.

I feel like having an episode where she tries all those things and they don't feel right to her would be kinda awkward and clunky, but it's the easiest explanation. Even if her wings aren't strong enough to actually work for real flight, she knows well what they feel like and might find the idea of replacements really frustrating and unappealing.
