>What is this thread about?
This thread revolves around stories about ponies getting bathed and pet.

>Can you elaborate more?
Sure! SPG (Slave Pony General) is mostly about characters dealing with the actual implications of the horrifying thing that is chattel slavery. It's more looking at how people with modern sensibilities deal with the ownership of another sentient being, and how most people aren't total cunts.

> The turning weather was both a blessing and a curse. The problem with mud was worse, but the danger of freezing was reduced. There wasn't fresh grass yet, but the signs were there. The days were longer, and the sun seemed to soar higher in the sky each day.
> It was just in time, Thistle thought. The donkeys were suffering the most. All the trees nearby had had their lower branches completely plucked, and many had their bark stripped. In some places, the nomads had dug through the snow to get at the brown, unpalatable grass underneath.
> Despite all their efforts, it wasn't enough. There hadn't been time or opportunity in the autumn to fill their stocks of grain, and the hunger was widespread among the people, too.
> All of this was alleviated, at least partially, by the nomads butchering and eating their donkey herd. More meat for the people, fewer animal mouths to feed. It wasn't nice, but Thistle's own belly, more often empty and grumbling than not, told her that this was the reality of her new world.
> The horses were a lot better off. Grain wasn't spared for them and both Bulat and Zaur organized the camp's youngsters to range far afield and gather any green plants they could find. It wasn't without danger with all the hungry beasts in the forest, but there were always a few hunters who joined these expeditions and added a little to the people's stew pots.
> She herself was fed a better than the donkeys, but not quite as well as the horses. Despite all her influence, it was still a constant struggle and most nights she went to bed hungry. Their nascent herd was simply the higher priority, and Thistle was expected to take care of herself.
> At last, the sought-after day came when Salki and Darga decided they would leave the mountains. They had to make the trip while the people and the animals still had enough strength to navigate the fierce terrain. Their destination was worth it, though. In the lowlands, most of the snow had melted and small creatures were multiplying.
> Soon, the traders would come and the people would trade their fine collection of bronze tools, weapons, and pelts of various rare and beautiful animals for all the food they wanted.
> Even Thistle was looking forward to tasting something else than watery stew and half-rotten, brown foliage. Even more importantly, the donkeys would be able to graze again.
> She avoided the little clearing where the animals were tethered. Their pitiful braying was too hard to listen to and even the incessant chatter of the nomads' ceaseless gossip was preferable.

> However hard the mare tried to harden herself, the sound of the poor creatures' distress still made her wince in pity. At least, she told herself on those sad, brutal mornings when the men descended upon their little herd with knives, they weren't taking the pregnant ones.
> They still needed to replenish their stock once the privations of winter were over.
> In fact, some of the calmest and happiest moments through their time in the mountains had been when she was able to get away. More than once she visited the place where the worlds would touch. She'd spent countless hours there, speaking in Equestrian, doing her best to remember every single word she knew on the off chance that the sound would somehow make the connection.
> Some days she tried dancing there, and others she just sat and stared at the spot, wishing the way would open. A few times, she even made her cot in the clearing, away from that invisible line where the trees and the rocks had been sliced apart, but close enough so that any change in the air, however minor, would wake her up.
> On other occasions she'd travelled to visit the Andronoskaya people. She'd brokered more trades, always for simple bronze tools and weapons in exchange for grain. Without these, she was quite sure, a lot of their animals and some of their people would have died. She herself would have wasted away without a share of her cargo which she simply took for herself without asking. At first a few of the women had complained, but no one tried to stop her. However hard the times were, the nomads agreed that she'd earned it.
> On each of their visits Thistle and her friends sat with Cengiz and tried to suck his memory completely dry. She listened raptly to all his stories, and legends, and his knowledge about the plants and animals, on the off chance that there would be a nugget, a *hint*, which could take her home.
> Even Salki was telling her that she was obsessed with the mystery, that she had to let it go and focus on immediate survival, but the mare would have none of it. Finding the way home became her only goal. She could ignore the hunger when she was so arrow-focused on her ultimate goal.
> It wasn't as if she had much else to do, especially now when any sign of the Ulan-Zuk in their lands was gone, and the people were beginning to relax. Perhaps their hatred had had time to cool off during the long winter. Maybe they would stay away, and the two tribes would return to that peculiar kind of uneasy truce most of the groups in the plains had with one another.
> Perhaps their new friendship with the Andronoskaya would deter attacks, and the Ulan-Zuk wouldn't dare go against two tribes.

> Even if there was another war, Janus had not spent the winter idle, and all the hunters of the Borchi-Quin were now well-armed. Everyone who could hold a bow had trained and trained, until even the women and the children could shoot arrows with deadly accuracy.
> If the enemy tried something, they would find Thistle's people a hard morsel to swallow.
> None of that was important, though. Not if they could slip through into Equestria! Thistle almost groaned in despair as her mind began to race through the same, old, well-established groove.
> Was it a sound? Perhaps a smell, or the way rain fell? Maybe the way opened when the sun shone upon it at a certain angle? Was it an alignment of the stars?
> For all she knew, the way might open when the breeze flapped one of the abandoned banners in the ruins of the Two Sisters' castle! That was just the problem with magic! It could be literally anything, and she might never know!
> Thistle smacked her hoof repeatedly against her temple in an effort to get these desperate thoughts to stop. Her ears were folded all the way down, but she still heard Cengiz' boring, monotonous voice droning on with yet another repetition of a story.
> She'd asked him to do it, but wasn't helping. In the end, she gave up and forced her eyes to open.
"[I'm sorry,]" she said, voice raw and cracking. "[We've been over this already. I remember it all. I'm sorry.]"
> He gave her a strange look and an uncertain smile. "[You said you wanted to hear about the birds which fly away in the winter and come back in the spring.]"
"[I did, yes. I wanted to make sure I remember it correctly.]"
> The man gave a shrug and picked up his water skin. After he'd drank his fill, he held it out to her as well and Thistle accepted it gratefully. The water, even smelly and stale, would perhaps soothe her headache.
> What else could she do? Her random experiments at the spot had told her nothing. The old shaman's apprentice was just as useless. Perhaps if she combined the two?
> Her eyes narrowed as she studied Cengiz thoughtfully. Would she be able to convince him? Could she talk Anwar into letting the man go? The journey would take some weeks, as would the trip back. If she added a week at the place, the Andronoskaya shaman would be gone for the best part of two months.
> Besides, that would require her to tell the secret at least to Cengiz, if not Anwar as well. The relationship between the two peoples was going well, but not quite that well. The Ulan-Zuk had taught her to be wary of too much trust, too soon.
> Salki had agreed with Rinat and Thistle that the Andronoskaya should not be given bows, at least not yet. Perhaps if the war with the Ulan-Zuk threatened again, but not before.

"[I- Thank you for telling us all these things. The Borchi-Quin will have a shaman again, and the spirits will be pleased.]"
> In lieu of a reply, he simply inclined his head.
"[I must go. Zaur has finished trading for grain and donkeys and we must return to our people. The winter has been hard.]"
> "[It has been hard for us all. The traders will come soon, and we will all have food again.]"
> She hoped he was right, but didn't say anything. Spring was the usual time when the caravans started their travels from wherever they spent the winter. They'd be loaded down with grain from the West, where the weather warmed a lot sooner, or at least so Thistle had heard.
> She didn't remember much of Equestrian agriculture, but she knew that late fall grain would have filled all the barns and silos. Those would be about half-depleted in the spring, and would need to last until early summer for the first harvest.
> Perhaps the nations to the West began to sell their stock after they made sure their next harvest was well on its way? Maybe, on the other hand, the traders stocked up on the foodstuffs in the autumn, when it was cheap, and then sold it in spring at a much higher price.
> However it happened, the caravans would come with the dry season, when the plains became more easily passable for loaded pack animals.
"[We are back in our own lands, so the traders will find us,]" she agreed. "[It will be easier then.]"
> "[Yes. Your people have made many fine tools and weapons from metal. I think you will trade well this year.]"
"[That and the skins from the mountain cats. They are soft and pretty, and Hisein says they will fetch a good price with the traders.]"
> The man grunted in agreement, and she didn't continue the conversation. She bowed her head to Cengiz and left his tent to go look for her companion.
> At least the snow was mostly gone and some of the older children could drive their donkey herd out of the camp each day to graze. The grass was disgusting, but the animals weren't picky, not as starved as they were. For Celestia's sake, she could have counted the individual ribs on most of them!
> They would put on some fat, and that meant more of the grain was coming her way, too. She'd made it through another winter!
> The thought of those young shepherds brought a smile to her lips as she remembered how she'd met Salki. He'd been one of those boys, herding their donkeys. She sighed to herself at the memory. He'd grown up so fast.

> The way was closer now that her people had come back from the mountains, but it was still a good distance. Even at their best speed, Thistle and her troupe would have to camp at least once. Leaving the Andronoskaya late in the afternoon had pushed that to two nights, but at least they'd arrive in mid-morning, rather than in the evening.
> She was considering asking Salki and Darga to move the camp closer. Especially if the Ulan-Zuk started to make new trouble, it would be easier to come to one another's aid.
> Well, it would be easier to get Andronoskaya help. Ulan-Zuk weren't at war with them, at least not yet.
> Trade would also be simpler, and even though it had started as a ruse, many people in her tribe agreed that training up a shaman was an important and useful thing to do as soon as could be arrange. Thistle hadn't argued, of course. She didn't much care which young man they picked to send to Cengiz as an apprentice.
> "[Someone is coming,]" Zaur said.
> They both stopped and she followed his gaze. Of course the horizon was little more than a blur to her eyes, but she trusted the young man's vision. The wind was blowing in her face, so she lifted up her nose and inhaled deeply. If they weren't too far, then perhaps...
"[It's Temir!]" she said, brain momentarily frozen in shock. "[He isn't supposed to be here! What is he doing?]"
> Last she knew, Temir was the older hunter with the group of youngsters at that special place in the mountains! Could that mean...?
> She let out an urgent whinny and bolted toward her friend. She couldn't wait, not even a single minute while he approached them. Zaur yelled something at her, but she wasn't paying him any mind.
> After a few steps, the ropes which tied her cargo to her back came loose and a sack tumbled down. She didn't look at it. They could get it later.
> It did let her run a little faster.
> Soon she heard hoofsteps other than her own. Temir had taken a horse at the camp. She'd wanted to leave at least one of the animals with the men in the mountains, so they could come down faster, but Salki had said no and she couldn't convince him otherwise. It was too risky that it would escape them in the mountains, or that it would be attacked by a beast with so few people around.
> No matter, he was almost there. She could see his shape and hear the slap of his rump on the horse's back.
"[Did it happen?!]"
> The horse whinnied in alarm as Temir pulled on the reins, and its hooves scraped on the grass. It came to a stop a moment before smacking into Thistle and she leapt up on her hind hooves. She braced herself on the larger animal and repeated:
"[Is it open!? Tell me!]"
> "[It is!]" he said. "[I came as fast as I could.]"

> Her muscles suddenly felt like wet noodles, and she couldn't quite feel her legs. Her grip on the horse slipped, and she sat down, heavily, on her rump. Tears were trickling down her face, unheeded.
> It had happened!
> She would get to go home!
"[We have to go! Hurry! Come on!]"
> Jumping to her hooves, she very nearly started running in the direction Temir had come from, but luckily there was still a small corner of her mind which thought clearly. It was getting late. She would get herself lost in the dark. She needed the nomads to help her find the way.
"[Come on!]"
> By now Zaur had caught up to them, and he gave the mare an odd look. "[What happened?]" he asked. "[Did the Ulan-Zuk attack? Did someone die?]"
> She shook her head, her legs dancing impatiently on the grass.
"[The way is open! We can go home! To my home!]"
> "[Shit, so it's really there?]" Zaur said incredulously.
"[Yes! We have to hurry!]"
> The nomad put a restraining hand on her withers and grabbed a fistful of her mane. "[Easy, girl,]" he said. "[We have to make a camp soon. We'll get home tomorrow.]"
"[But- but! But!]"
> "[Zaur's right,]" Temir said. "[It's dangerous to travel at night. I think I saw a good place for a camp back there. We'll go in the morning. It's a long way to the mountains. It has taken me eight days to come down, and it will take us longer to go back up.]"
"[What if the way closes by then?! We don't know how long it will stay open!]"
> The young nomad shrugged. "[What if it has already closed? We will not know until we talk with them who watched it.]"
> Her ears went completely flat and a wave of disappointment flooded her pony soul. Thistle wiped at her muzzle with her fetlock and forced herself to take a deep breath.
"[You're right. Maybe we can figure out why it opened. If nothing else, we know it is open more often than once in every two generations.]"
> "[Yes, and maybe it will stay open long enough so we can go through,]" Temir said.
> Zaur was shaking his head. "[No, we will not get everyone to move. People will not want to go back into the mountains so soon after coming down. They remember how cold and how hard it was.]"
"[But we have to stay together! If we go to my home, we must all go!]"
> "[I don't know. We'll talk with Salki and see what he says. It's his decision,]" Temir pointed out.
"[Fine,]" Thistle grumbled. "[Let's find that camping place. We should head out at first light!]"
> Waking up early enough wouldn't be a problem, at least. She doubted she'd be able to sleep a single wink that night.
> She would have started walking right away, but Zaur pointed back. "[You dropped something. Let's hope the grain didn't spill, or we will be here a while to pick it up.]"

> Thistle hadn't thought it possible, but her ears lowered a little bit more. She let her head hang down as she followed the nomad to the bright bit of burlap on the ground.
> "[Did you go through?]" Zaur asked. "[Did anyone?]"
> Her hoof jerked as she nearly slapped herself in the muzzle. She hadn't thought to ask!
"[Yes! Did you? What did you see?]"
> "[Erlan went in,]" Temir said. "[He said it was very hot on the other side, and very wet. It was a forest, even worse than in the mountains.]"
> Thistle nodded happily while Zaur was busy re-tying her sack on her back. It did sound like Everfree, at least the little she remembered from when the nomads had originally dragged her through.
"[What did he see?]"
> "[He said it felt strange to cross over. He didn't like it, but it didn't hurt, and he wasn't injured. He didn't recognize the smells, and all he could see was the forest. There weren't any animals.]"
> The horse nearly stepped on her, so close was she walking. The beast nickered at her in annoyance and the mare made herself peel away.
"[Tell me everything he said!]"

Where do the traders get this much food to feed multiple clans for months? They have not seemed to go back and forth between the source and the "customers".

Damn, that's not a blink of an eye. That means it will take a week to get back to the portal. But even if it closes, now they know that it happens at least every two and a half year.
>If we go to my home, we must all go!
Not sure if it is beneficial for Equestria to suddenly have hundreds of barbarians.

I have a feeling that the portal will be closed once Thistle arrives to the opening.

Not quite end, you're right, but I will do a bit of skipping so as not to repeat the same things again. Rainy Day is a bummer, had some plans with another writefag where they were supposed to start shortly after she was taken to show her side of the story, but it seems they didn't find the time, more's the pity. They were well versed in ancient cultures too, so it would have been super interesting. I guess I'll just have to revisit her at some point.

In either case, it's been one of those crazy weeks where I worked 10 or 11 hours every day just to keep our machine overlords happy, so I haven't had the strength to hold the keyboard when I came home. Sorry all :(

> Thistle sat on her haunches in the mud, heedless of the fat, cold drops of rain falling on her exposed head. She stared at the place, at the same time so familiar after months of study, and so foreign in the rain and without the snow.
> The entire forest felt strange, and smelled different too! The melting snow had exposed the ground, covered with old leaves and mulch, and even the trees themselves had a familiar, yet obscure tang of wet bark, unfamiliar mushrooms, and fresh pine needles.
> She hardly paid it any mind, her attention and despair both focused on where the way home should have been, but was not. She'd feared it would be gone on the long journey up, worried over it, and yet hoped against hope. Temir had said as much, but she hadn't wanted to believe.
> It made sense in hindsight, though. The way only remained open for a short time, as the youngsters who'd stayed up had told her. Erlan had gone in, looked around, and come back. Temir had left to go tell her.
> Not long after, the sun had barely travelled two hands-widths across the sky, there had been a change in the air, as if something had moved past them. At least that was how Erlan had described it. When they approached for a closer look, carefully and slowly, the forest clearing was the same as it had ever been.
> There were fresh signs that an impossible thing had happened, and even in the weak, gray daylight Thistle could see them. Ferns were cut in two, and there was a clear line in the mulch on the forest floor. A path had been opened there, if only for a few hours.
> That meant she would have to figure out why the way had opened. Maybe she could repeat it, or at least predict the next time. Most likely it would be there once more in the fall, based on the fact of her own experience and Cengiz's stories.
> Why *now* though?
"[Temir, what is special about the day this way opened? What would happen twice a year - in fall and in spring?]"
> The nomad simply watched her blindly and gave a small shrug.
> She let her ears fold more tightly down and went back to staring at the empty space where her way home was not.
"[Let me think. Birds come back from the south in Spring, and they fly away in Fall. Maybe it's that? The temperature-]"
> Thistle shook her head in dismissal. The temperature changed all the time, especially in Spring. It would have opened and closed more times since then. Could it be the birds? Maybe something about the light?
"[Exactly when did the way open?]" she asked. "[Where was the sun?]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42303154 >>42303158

> She should have taught the nomads about measuring time, at least about hours. The problem was that she didn't remember exactly how one went about making a sun clock, or how it could be used to measure the hour. They'd tried to teach her that during her time with the Filly Scouts, but it had been such a long time ago.
> There was some discussion, maybe even some argument, but eventually one of the younger men, Izzet, seemed to win out.
> "[Here,]" he told her, plopping down on particular bit of fallen log. "[I remember because I was staring at the sun. It was just over that branch,]" he pointed out.
"[Why were you staring at the sun?]"
> He looked down at his soft, leather shoes, and muttered: "[Sometimes I see things when I look at the sun.]"
"[Don't do that,]" she chided, "[you'll damage your eyes. You will go blind when you're older.]"
> The boy just shrugged off her warning and Thistle resolved quietly to have a word with his mother. It might not do anything, but then again the woman might be sensible. For now, she walked over to where Izzet was sitting and put her head right beside his. She quickly saw the branch he was talking about.
> Unfortunately, the sun was hidden behind the clouds, so she couldn't compare it with his description very well. It was pretty high up, though.
"[Was it at the highest point, you think?]"
> "[Maybe, yeah. It was almost right above us. I was looking at it as it came from behind the trunk when Temir shouted.]"
> Noon. Would it mean anything if the way had opened at noon? She would have to ask Willow when his party had gone into the portal. She hadn't been paying much attention to the time when they'd dragged her into this strange world, but she was pretty sure it was very early morning in Equestria.
> Did the time on both sides have to be the same?
> There were just so many things she didn't know!
> Something about noon tickled her mind, but she couldn't put her hoof on it. Perhaps if she saw the sun close to where Izzet said it had been?
"[Do you think the clouds will be gone tomorrow?]"
> All the nomads inspected the sky, but they couldn't quite tell. Erlan ran to the thickest tree around the clearing and before she could ask what he was doing, the lithe youth was clambering up with the grace of a squirrel. In a way, it was quite impressive to watch, something she could never hope to do herself. Even pegasi couldn't climb like that!
> Perhaps a griffin, or a dragon could, Thistle thought. It needed fingers.
> Once up in the tall branches, Erlan looked around the sky. He remained motionless for a long while.
"[Well? What do you see?]" she called when impatience got the best of her.
> "[Wait!]" Erlan shouted back.

> Thistle tried sitting, but her rump was wet and uncomfortable from the mulch, so she ended up pacing up and down beside the tree, while the other nomads watched their friend with curiosity.
> At long last, he came down, swinging from branch to branch like some kind of a monkey, deftly gripping the tree limbs with his fingers.
> If they ever made it to Equestria, the nomads could make their living as acrobats, she thought. Ponies would pay good money to see that kind of skill.
> The idea flew from her mind when Erlang grinned. "[There is a break in the clouds, and the wind is coming from the West. I think tomorrow we will see the sun.]"
> That was a relief, if for no other reason that the wet and gloomy skies would be a bit more cheerful.
> Perhaps the position of the sun, even several weeks removed, would give her another clue, or at least remind her of something she already knew. If not that, it would give her more information. Then, after she'd pried more from Willow, she might be able to put it all together.
> It did, however, mean that they'd have to wait until the next day. Thistle let her head hang and heaved a long sigh.
"[What do we do until then?]"
> Temir hefted his spear and pointed at the trees. "[Let's go and hunt. I will hunt and you will help me carry it back. Erlan, and Izzet, and Patya can wait here and watch if the way opens again.]"
> She looked at the empty spot, alarmed, but Temir chuckled and patted her wet mane. "[I don't think it will open. It hasn't on any day after that first one.]"
> What else could she do but nod reluctantly? At least a hunt would give her something else to focus on, perhaps distract her. Staying in the clearing would just drive her mad, with her mind going in circles. It had done that during every quiet moment on their mad rush to get here. Each night sleep had come later and later, and the weariness was starting to catch up to her.
> Now that all that tension had been released, even if the result was the one she'd been dreading, perhaps she would finally sleep the whole night?
> Tiring out her body would probably help.
"[Okay. Let's go.]"

> ~~~~

> Thistle barely paused to drop her pack when she and Erlan returned to the Borchi-Quin's main camp. The way had been long and arduous, but she would rest later. First, she had to go and ask the questions which had been burning in her mind since the forest clearing.
> It felt as if there was a groove in her brain, where her thoughts got trapped and ran in circles.
> Was it an animal, or some kind of a spirit? Was it something in the environment? Was it time? The alignment of the stars, or the position of the sun?
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42303161 >>42303169

> What Willow could tell her might not help, but every little detail was important. Even if it meant swallowing her pride and talking seriously with that jerk!
> Rangi began blurting out questions as soon as she poked her head into the tent, but she ignored him and shrugged out of her makeshift harness. There was nothing fragile in her pack, so she didn't even look where it landed.
"[I will be back soon,]" she said, mostly to shut the slave boy up, but also to answer Saule's unspoken question.
> She didn't wait for their replies and ducked out. With luck, Willow wouldn't be out hunting or patrolling their lands.
> The camp hadn't changed, so she knew which direction were Intor, Willow, and their friends. Weaving around people and between tents had become second nature, and she hardly gave it any mind. Walking right by open tent flaps no longer felt like an intrusion of privacy.
> "[Did you find what you were looking for?]" Xuan asked, making Thistle start. She hadn't even realized she'd gone right past the woman, who was sitting in the warm, late spring sun with her daughter. The child was noticeably bigger than the last time she'd seen her, and despite her burning need for answers, Thistle stopped to chat with her friend.
> A few more moments won't hurt, and Xuan might know if Willow was around.
"[Yes and no. The way had opened, but it didn't stay open for long. I need to talk to Willow.]"
> Xuan glanced in the direction of Intor's tent. "[He may be out, hunting. I have not seen him today. You can go and ask Intor.]"
> The news made Thistle grimace which caused her friend to throw back her head and laugh. "[Oh come on, she is not that bad. Ambitious and ruthless, maybe, but she wants the Borchi-Quin to thrive and become powerful. You know,]" Xuan said, leaning closer so she could murmur the secret quietly into Thistle's ear, "[I think it was her idea for Willow to go look for the spirit world.]"
"[Oh? Wait, do you know about that? Why didn't you say?!]"
> Xuan held up a hand at Thistle's hopeful outburst. "[No. I know it is something our men do sometimes, nothing more than that. I only heard about it when Willow came back and brought you, and that other pony.]"
> Sudden memory gripped her heart and flooded Thistle's mind with tragic nostalgia. She'd had a friend in this world, one who was lost to her and feeling alone. Oh, Celestia send Rainy Day was still alive!
> It also brought up other, more unwelcome thoughts. Could she really escape into Equestria and abandon her friend - her *citizen* - in this land? Rainy Day would have no chance at all of finding her own way back.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42303169 >>42303178
>>42303161

> No! She'd go to Equestria, she would petition the throne for an expedition. Pegasi and unicorns, with powerful magic. They would come back and look for Rainy Day. They'd save her!
> She had to get back so she could find help!
> "[I'm sorry,]" Xuan was saying. "[I did not mean to bring up a painful memory. I'm sorry about what happened to your friend.]"
"[It's okay,]" Thistle managed, her voice tight with effort.
> There was a flush of shame in her cheeks too. When was the last time she'd even thought of Rainy Day? She'd almost forgotten until Xuan had reminded her, so focused had she been on her own goals!
> Of course there had been the war, and the escape, and now that whole story with the Andronoskaya people, but those weren't good reasons to simply forget about a pony she had responsibility toward! The least she could do was bring Rainy Day to her thoughts every now and then, however painful it was.
"[Do you know anything else about the way to the spirit world? Did you know it's only open for two, maybe three hands-widths?]"
> "[Sorry. You should have asked the Shaman. It's a shame he was killed.]"
"[Yes.]"
> Her eyes fell on the child, and Thistle felt that a bit of the darkness had lifted from the world. She stepped closer so she could see her little face more clearly, and brushed her nose against that pink cheek. Guuni made a tiny, gurgling sound, which might have been a giggle.
> "[She is growing up fast,]" Xuan commented.
"[She is.]"
> "[I was talking with Buygra,]" the woman went on in a casual tone, even as she partially unwrapped her baby to examine her skin after an entire winter of being wrapped up in so many layers. "[You are teaching him and the others your language?]"
> It was an unexpected question and Thistle blinked in surprise. A moment later she nodded.
"[Yes. Why?]"
> "[I want you to teach Guuni, too. When she is old enough to talk.]"
"[Okay, but why?]"
> Xuan gave her a crooked half-grin and tapped her lips with a finger, as if swearing the mare to secrecy. "[It is always useful to know something the others do not know. The fool men don't always realize this. If Guuni can speak a secret language - the language of blacksmiths - she will become powerful.]"
> Her face darkened a little as she went on: "[Maybe she cannot be Chieftain like Darga was, but who knows. You are showing us that many things are possible. Perhaps she will be a leader, no? A great conqueror. A mother can dream.]"
> It was certainly an odd dream for a nomad woman, but Thistle understood. She felt the warmth of pride, thinking that it was probably her presence which inspired Xuan to think such thoughts - what some in the camp would call 'above her station'.
"[Okay, I will teach her all that I know. I have to go look for Willow now.]"

> As a parting gift, Xuan slipped her hand in Thistle's mane and gave her ear a few quick scratches. It felt wonderful after all those weeks of monotonous slogging through an uncaring landscape, and she closed her eyes to enjoy it for a few more seconds. Eventually she peeled herself away.
> There was no one outside around Intor's and Willow's tents, but the flaps were open, so Thistle approached and peered inside.
> Luck! The man was lying on his back, apparently asleep. She sat on her haunches and cleared her throat loudly.
> That woke him up and Willow shot bolt upright. His eyes narrowed in suspicion when he saw who it was. "[It's you,]" he said. "[So you're back from your walking around?]"
> The nomads didn't have a word for 'vacation', but she was certain that was what he was implying. She refused to take the bait.
"[I am, and we have learned a lot. I have some questions for you.]"
> "[I'm not helping you. Go away, I'm tired. *Some of us* were keeping our people safe all night.]"
> She almost snarked back at him, but bit her tongue and forced her ears to splay.
"[Please. I need to hear what you can tell me.]"
> That word from her mouth, directed at him, was sufficiently unexpected that Willow gaped at her for a moment. Then the suspicious look was back. "[Why? What did you find out?]"
> She considered not telling him, but if she expected information from him, then it was only fair to exchange.
"[The way opened when the sun was almost directly above. It only stayed open for two, maybe three hands-widths. How was it when you went through?]"
> He shrugged. "[I thought you knew. Didn't the old Shaman tell you? When we go into the spirit world, we must be fast, because the way back will close quickly.]"
"[No! No he didn't! Why didn't you ever tell me?!]" she demanded.
> "[Did you ever ask?]"
> Again there was that small burn of shame. She hadn't really tried talking to Willow, not with the enmity between them. Even when she lived with him and Intor she hadn't thought to engage him in any serious discussion.
"[Look, I'm sorry. I need to know. What else can you tell me?]"
> He gave this some thought, and the sneer on his lips receded a little. She took it as a good sign and even promised herself she would hate him slightly less if he gave her anything of use. Heck, even his words were no help, at least if he tried seriously!
> "[The shaman said we had to be there on that exact day. He saw the omens in the stars, I think. We walked up the mountain, to the place he described.]"
> Thistle had tensed up as the story began and it was all she could do to remain seated. She was leaning into the tent so that she wouldn't miss a single word.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42303181 >>42303185

> "[We camped outside of the clearing, like the Shaman said we should. Then, the next morning, we made a fire. He gave us some dry plants and said we should sprinkle them into the flames. It made a smoke which stung the nose.]"
"[What kind of plants?! Did you see?]"
> His lips thinned in annoyance at her interruption, but he answered: "[No. Maybe you can ask that Andronoskaya shaman. They were dry and ground up, so it was like a powder.]"
> Her ears folded down in dismay, but then Thistle remembered that the hunters up at the circle hadn't burned any special herbs and the way had still opened. Perhaps the plants gave the nomads at least some control on which day it would happen? "[What happened next?]" she asked.
> "[We waited. The fire burned down until there was nothing but embers. We buried them. Some thought nothing would happen and wanted to go home, but I told them we should wait until it was dark, at least. We could camp one more night, then head home in the morning.]"
"[The path opened then?]"
> "[Yeees,]" Willow drew the word out, deep in thought. "[Maybe it was when the sun was highest. I don't know. When we went through, it was morning in the other world- in your world. Yet, when we came back with you, it was still the middle of the day. Odd that.]"
> It was almost there! The revelation, the knowledge of how to get home. It was on the tip of her metaphorical tongue! Thistle folded down and put her hooves over her ears to shut out all distraction. She ignored Willow's confused stare.
> Mid-day, when the sun was highest in the sky. In Fall and in Spring. Herbs the shaman gave them for the fire. No, those probably didn't matter. Just a meaningless ritual. What else had Willow said? The Shaman had seen which day it was in the stars.
> Alignment of some constellations? Phase of the moon? No, the gate didn't open every month, or the young hunters would have seen it.
> Spring and Fall. Autumn and Spring.
> The sun. Celestia controlled the sun. Was there a connection? What day would be important for *her*? Summer Sun Celebration?
> She let out a gasp as light suddenly bloomed and jumped up so fast her hooves left the ground for a moment.
"[Yes!]"
> She didn't know the nomad word for it.
"Equinox!"
> At Willow's strange look, she tried to explain:
"[The night and the day are the same length! Once in Spring and once in Fall. The sun is highest on the sky that day! That *has* to be it! That is when the way opens!]"
> He didn't look convinced, which was because he simply didn't understand, but his befuddled expression was almost... cute. Thistle lunged forward and threw her hooves around the man's chest in a quick hug.
"[Thank you!]" she said and realized she'd meant it.

> Willow had given her the last clue she'd needed. Perhaps the most important one.
> Her ears wilted a little as she realized the implications. She'd have to wait until the Autumn. On the other hand, she knew what to look for. She knew how to get home, and how to bring all the nomads with her.
"[I have to go tell Salki! Um, thank you.]"
> She darted off before the bemused hunter had a chance to respond. The knowledge washed away any residual exhaustion from her arduous journey, both up the mountain and back down. Her steps were light as she pranced happily through the camp.

> She'd been ready for it this time, but it still came as a surprise. After all, it didn't *have* to happen every single year, although that possibility was purely theoretical for her. Other mares, especially older ones, said that their heat became much weaker, and sometimes it even missed a year, but Thistle had never had that problem.
> Except now it would have been a luxury. She'd been dreading that first feeling of inexplicable, inner warmth. It had made her do some awful things the last time. She'd sworn to herself she would be ready this year.
> When Spring had come and gone she'd breathed a little easier, thinking that perhaps the danger was over. Maybe with all the demanding toil, the excitement and fear, and the hardship of winter, her body might have decided to skip a year.
> Now she knew there'd be no such luck. At best she got a small delay.
> It was still manageable and would remain so for a little while longer, but without a proper Equestrian chemist it would just keep building and building, until she wasn't able to think coherent thoughts and devolved into mindless lust.
> Just what she might try to do this time, Thistle didn't dare think.
> She had a few days to figure something out.
> The plan she'd formed was crude and full of holes, but it was the best she could do on short notice. It took some considerable argument with Salki to make it happen. Strangely, or perhaps not, Saule had no issue with it.
> Both of them were watching her as she prepared the things she'd need. Leather for a tent, a knife, a spear, a makeshift trowel, and water skins. She took one rolled up cot, and two sacks of grain, even though she hoped she wouldn't need them. With the Summer in full swing the plains were full of lush, young grass. It would be plenty to sustain her for the week or two she needed to work the heat completely out of her system.
> Her pack donkey was the most important, and the least pleasant to think about. She felt disgusted for taking it, but she remembered very well what'd happened the last time. When the haze of estrus had her in its steely, velvety grip, she wouldn't be able to help herself.
> Luckily the animal wouldn't mind, at least judging from what she'd seen in the herd.
> Besides, she needed it for its utility, too! There was no way she was carrying all her heavy provisions herself all that distance. She had to be far away and soon enough so that even in her heat-addled brain she wouldn't think of going back to the tent.
> It wasn't a perfect plan, and the more she thought about it, the less she liked it, but it was the best she could come up with on short notice.
> She simply wasn't safe among people, or she soon wouldn't be.

>>42320428

> Maybe if Salki tied her up? Bound all four hooves together and left her to lie in the tent, trussed up like a pig and muzzled so she couldn't shout?
> That'd leave her exposed and vulnerable for any nomad who chanced upon her. She wouldn't be able to resist if they wanted to... play with her a little.
> Thistle bit her tongue and shook her head to dislodge the sneaky thought. Her tail had already started to creep up, and she was on the verge of- of *dripping*!
> It was high time to get out of the camp! This time they didn't have Ruslan prisoners - attackers who would deserve such treatment. True, they did have slaves, but she wouldn't stoop that low. She knew what some of the men did, and if she wanted any chance of changing that she'd have to lead by example.
> Her thoughts were interrupted when a hand pushed down on a grain sack she was trying to lift.
> "[At least take a few hunters with you!]" Salki said, not for the first time that day.
"[No. I have to go alone. They would bother me!]"
> "[Why?! All you're going to do is look at the moon!]"
> It had been a poor excuse, but she'd panicked and said the first thing that came to mind.
"[I will need to focus. I will need to count how long it takes the moon to rise above the ground,]" she said, inventing urgently. "[Then I will have to watch exactly where it sets! Otherwise I will not know when the way to Equestria will open again!]"
> He was dubious, but he wasn't a shaman and had no secret knowledge which could contradict her claims. He still tried, though: "[It will be dangerous! There are wild animals!]"
"[I will have a spear. I have fought before. I will make a fire at night, and I'll be safe.]"
> Salki looked at his wife and spread his arms. "[You say something,]" he implored even as Thistle returned he attention to the sack of grain.
> The plea made Saule sigh, and Thistle could vividly imagine how the woman must have rolled her eyes, but she did step closer and laid a hand on the mare's back. "[Salki is right. Take at least one hunter. He will not bother you if you tell him to stay quiet.]"
> For a moment she considered it. Some company would be nice, and it would make her feel a lot safer. Not to mention it would ease her anxiety about being able to find her way back to the camp after it was all done. The only problem was that the hunter would be male, and she might not be able to stop herself.
> She probably couldn't force him, not really, but she would thoroughly embarrass herself and the hunter would undoubtedly tell his story to everyone who would listen. The respect she'd scrimped so carefully in the camp would be gone.
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42320433 >>42320437

> Thistle needed the people to respect her, and maybe even fear her secret knowledge a little. Maybe, she thought, she could fill the role of their old shaman, now that the man was gone. It would give her enough authority to make everyone go through the portal when it opened. Only if they trusted her would everyone follow her into Equestria.
> Once there, all the strange novelty would be a big cultural shock to the tribe, and they would need to obey her words and believe in her *implicitly*, especially if she wanted to avoid any unpleasantness.
> The ponies wouldn't do anything, Thistle was certain of that, but in their fear and ignorance the nomads might lash out. She didn't want her fellow equines hurt, and neither did she want to see the consequences, both for herself and for the people once Celestia and Luna came to ask some pointed questions.
> No, the people *shouldn't* see her shame and her lack of control! She'd done some stupid things in the past, but with luck the people had forgotten. The last thing she needed was to remind them!
"[I have to go alone! This is important! I must watch the moon. It will tell me how to get into- in the spirit world!]"
> "[It's not spirit world!]" Salki said, spreading his arms in exasperation. "[It's your old home. Equestria! Don't talk to me like I'm stupid!]"
> Her ears went flat and Thistle turned to face the young man.
"[Sorry,]" she said, voice filled with contrition. "[I didn't mean it that way. Some people don't understand, so I must say these things. You understand?]"
> The only reply he gave was a quiet grunt, but for him that meant agreement. "[Well, there are still beasts out there. Someone should go with you. Maybe I should go. I won't get in your way of watching the moon.]"
> She had to bite her lip to keep herself from moaning a 'yes'. Saule would be seriously displeased, and even if Thistle convinced Salki to rut her like a mare in heat she was, the wife would undoubtedly find out when they returned. Salki had no hope of keeping any secrets around his home firepit.
> If that happened Thistle wouldn't live to see the morning. She was quite sure of that. Marriage to the tribe's Chieftain had filled Saule with a deadly sort of confidence. All traces of her youthful softness were gone, and now she was just as sharp and ambitious as Intor, or even Darga. Thistle suspected at least one of the older women was teaching Saule how to be a Chieftain's wife and get her way.
"[No, you have duties here. The people need a leader!]"
> After she'd said it, Thistle saw Saule relax a little. She hadn't even noticed the woman had tensed up at the suggestion. Her expression was a touch warmer, too, as was her voice. "[Thistle is right. You can't leave your people for fourteen days! Someone else can go with her.]"
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42320437 >>42320442
>>42320433

"[No, no-]" Thistle began.
> Saule spoke right over her, perhaps fearful that Salki would insist on going himself. She reached into the tent, where Rangi had been crouching by the flap to listen to their discussion, and caught the young slave's arm. "[He will go with you!]" the woman proclaimed.
"[What?! No, I really can't-]"
> "[We will not need Rangi for a while. There is very little wood to gather, and I can cook our food while he is gone. He can fight and he'll keep you safe!]"
> Her ears were completely flat by now, and Thistle was barely staving off panic. She couldn't have any nomad with her, slave or not! In fact, it would be worse if it was a slave! How could she tell the men it was wrong what they were doing to the captive women, when she herself-
> Just in time she realized that her tail had hiked up and brought it down forcefully.
"[No! No, Saule! I have to go alone!]"
> Rather than listening to her, the woman just went on, right over Thistle's words: "[It's settled. Rangi will help you carry your things, and he will make sure you are not attacked by wild animals. He will not try to escape, will you?]"
> That last one was directed at the young man, who cringed at the iron in her tone. "[No mistress Saule!]" he squeaked. "[I will make sure mistress Thistle is safe! I will bring her back. I'll be good!]"
"[He won't have to keep me safe because he's not going!]" Thistle demanded.
> Even Salki was nodding. "[That's a good idea. He won't run away because no other tribe would take him after the Ruslans were defeated. They wouldn't dare face our wrath, or the Ulan-Zuk for that matter. Besides, there is not enough food and Rangi cannot hunt with a bow. He wouldn't survive long, alone.]"
> It didn't help that the slave was nodding solemnly to these words. Thistle felt saddened and a little disgusted by just how well the youth had taken to his new lot in life.
> Then again, she herself didn't have much to show off in that regard, either. She'd assimilated into the Borchi-Quin quite well, too. The biggest difference was that the nomads hadn't slaughtered or enslaved Ponyville.
"[Salki! Saule! Listen to me! No one can go with me! I won't have any distractions!]"
> "[I won't distract you, mistress Thistle!]"
"[Shut up, you! I'm going alone, and that's final!]"
> Saule crossed her arms. Thistle didn't understand why the woman was so insistent. Surely it wasn't because she cared enough about the mare that she wanted her safe? "[You're taking Rangi, or you are not going. I will tie you up in the tent if I must!]"

> A small whimper escaped Thistle's throat before she could clamp it down. There was iron in Saule's voice, even if none of the nomads had seen that kind of metal before. She had no doubt Saule would be well capable of following through on her threat, and Salki wouldn't stop her.
> That'd leave her in exactly the situation she'd wanted to avoid.
> Maybe, even if Rangi went with her, she would be able to ditch him at nights so she could get her fill with her hoof and, if all else failed, their donkey. He'd stay in the tent if she ordered him to. Yeah, she could always claim she needed to be completely alone, a little distance away.
> With luck, she might even be able to sneak off while he slept!
"[Fine!]" she barked angrily, scrunching up her muzzle until her teeth were bared. "[Fuck it! Fine. Rangi can come with me!]"
> Her stomach sank when she saw the delight on the young man's face. He really did think of this excursion as an adventure, a chance to be away from his duties as Saule's slave at least for a while. She also hated the smug satisfaction on Saule's face, and the tinge of relief on Salki's.
> She heaved a sigh and pointed a hoof at the bag she'd been trying to lift when Salki had interrupted her.
"[Lift that up. We will tie it with the other bag so they can go across the donkey's back. I will go get us a donkey from Kantuta.]"

>Thistle had never had that problem
She is supposedly much younger than what the show implies. Barely old enough to be a grandmother. My guess is she is in her 40s.
>what she might try to do this time
Let's see what she did last year: fuck a donkey, rape a prisoner. Can't be much worse than that.
>for the week or two
Is she seriously planning to camp alone for a week or two? I assume at the portal or something.
>Her pack donkey was the most important
Let me guess, its a jack.
>she needed it for its utility, too
That's secondary it seems. I hope she chose the one with the biggest cock.
>wasn't safe among people
Well safer than with a donkey. At least there is no chance she getting knocked up by a human.
>I have fought before.
And killed too.
>He will not bother you
But Thistle will bother him!
>fear her secret knowledge a little
If she were to even try use some of that then maybe the others would look differently at her.
>Don't talk to me like I'm stupid!
Sometimes he is not far from it.
>Maybe I should go.
At least he knows how to handle her.
>He will go with you!
And how will Rangi help? He is not a hunter. Nor can he provide much protection.
>It's settled.
Someone does not want Rangi around.
>or you are not going
Saule does not have the final word in it.
>I will tie you up in the tent if I must!
That would work for Thistle.
>Fine!
What? Why? I know we rarely seen anything from her resembling how a mayor should act.
>smug satisfaction on Saule's face
Maybe she knows why Thistle wants to get away.

> Thistle felt dirty as the camp came back in sight. It wasn't because of the sweat, or even the flecks of mud in her coat from where she'd lain on the ground. It wasn't even her bedraggled mane and tail, which she felt and smelled, more than saw.
> The feeling was coming from inside, and no amount of scrubbing in a convenient stream had helped. She glanced sideways at Rangi and had to quickly avert her eyes.
"[Listen,]" she said, voice tight with the effort to control her emotion. "[You can't tell anyone about this. Understand?]"
> The youth didn't seem perturbed, which only served to make her feel worse about the whole thing. She hadn't needed the donkey after all. Rangi had been all too easy to convince.
> She should have known as much. After living among the nomads for all this time, she should have known how much the youth, men in particular, were controlled by their biological urges. All too often she'd heard the women talking of all the frantic activity, which most of the time resulted in a quick marriage.
> "[I won't tell,]" Rangi said cheerfully. His mixture of calm acceptance and contentedness just made Thistle feel more awful.
> She'd phrased it as a question and an offer, but from the moment they'd made camp and she'd realized they only had a single tent, the poor man had been doomed. He hadn't really had much of a choice, not one that mattered.
> Perhaps the worst part of it, the one that made her feel sullied deep inside, was her clear knowledge of what she would have done had Rangi said no.
>Now that it was over, and her usual clarity was back, she could tell herself that she'd have left him and gone for the donkey.
> It wasn't true, though. After her experiences with Salki and, yes, even their hapless Ruslan captive a year before, she wouldn't have been able to stop herself.
> Well, Rangi had said yes, and the two had enjoyed a couple of days of lustful abandon. It had been physically fulfilling, but emotionally devastating, at least for her. Maybe she would have felt better about it if Rangi wasn't so damn nonchalant about the whole thing?
> No, that would have made it worse. Much worse.
> He'd said yes, though! If only she could stop feeling so bad about it! It wasn't all that different from what she'd done with Salki on their way East.
> Except that this time it was different because Rangi was, more or less, her slave.
> She let out a groan and forcibly wrenched her mind from the rut it was running in. They'd done it, the thing was done, and now it was over. It would stay over forever! She'd guide the people into Equestria where she'd have access to all the modern medicine and magic, and her heat each year would go back to being suppressed like a civilized equine should!
AspiringWritefag !!12aZPDwdMbs No.42344143 >>42344145

> The main thing now was to ensure Rangi wouldn't slip and ruin the careful image she was trying to cultivate in the camp. She needed to be *better* than them! She needed to lead by example! Her demands that the men release their captive Ruslans would be laughed off if anyone knew what she'd just done.
"[People wouldn't understand. You must not tell. Maybe Salki would get angry. He might beat you.]"
> Lying to the poor youth like that wasn't making her feel any better, but it was a minor crime in comparison.
> "[I won't tell, I promise,]" Rangi repeated, but this time his voice was tinged with fear.
> Thistle nodded to herself in satisfaction. She believed he would indeed keep it to himself. She was certain to do the same. That would be the end of it.
> Except that she caught him glancing at her from the corner of his eye. She took a stab at guessing his thoughts.
"[We can't do that again, not ever!]" she hissed.
> "[Why not!?]" he whined. "[It was good. I liked it! I don't care that you're an animal!]"
"[I'm a pony, not an animal! And neither are you! This week was- was a mistake!]"
> He didn't answer, but his face turned sullen. Thistle hurried her steps so she could get in front of him and see more of his expression.
"[I mean it! It's not right! We shouldn't be doing it!]"
> "[Why?]" was all the response he gave, not even meeting her gaze.
"[Because it's wrong! You're a slave and I'm - nearly - your owner! It's bad!]"
> "[But it was okay when you did it with Salki?]"
> She missed a step and hit her muzzle on the ground. Luckily it was covered in lush grass, but it still stung. She picked herself up and hurried after Rangi who'd simply walked on.
"[What do you know about that!?]" she demanded.
> At long last he gave her a pointed stare. "[I'm not stupid, even if you think I am! I know what I am. I know what you and your people did! I listen to Saule and Salki talk. I listen and I remember! Someday what I remember will help me get revenge!]"
> She was speechless at the admission. They'd both stopped and were facing each other. She saw that Rangi's fists were clenched, and he was breathing more quickly.
"[I- I think,]" she said, working her suddenly dry mouth, "[maybe you shouldn't have said that.]"
> "[I don't care! You can tell Salki, and he'll beat me. I'll spit in his face and he'll have to kill me. I don't care!]"
> She could tell he was lying, by the way he refused to meet his gaze, and how his eyes darted around, as if looking for hidden spies in the tall grass. He was trembling a little, but determined to stand his ground.
"[Ruslan people began attacking us first, Rangi.]"
> "[That's what *you* say! My father said the Borchi-Quin were the first to intrude in our hunting grounds! He said you took our game and drove off our people!]"

> It was the same old grievance, not much different from the old griffin territorial disputes, or the constant squabbling among the dragons, or even that spat between the buffalo and the ponies of Appleloosa some years ago. My land, your land. Stay on your side of the land, and off mine.
> Her ears folded down and Thistle took a long, calming breath.
"[Both were wrong,]" she murmured.
> "[What?!]"
"[Both your people and mine were wrong! They are all stupid! It shouldn't have come to war! There's plenty of land and game for everyone!]"
> The youth didn't know how to answer that, so he just stared balefully at her.
"[I was taken from my land, too! I'm not with the Borchi-Quin because I want to be, you know? I don't have a lot of choice.]"
> She recognized her own lie and corrected it:
"[Well, I could have chosen the Ulan-Zuk, but that's even worse. I didn't want to fight your people, but you were attacking mine, and killing us! What choice did we have? I wanted to talk, to make peace, but that's not the nomad way!]"
> It was more than she'd said to any member of her tribe, at least in a single conversation. She suspected Salki and Hisein knew her thoughts on the war, and maybe Buygra. None of them knew that she still resented being taken from her home. Perhaps they could guess, but she hadn't told anyone.
"[I'm sorry it came to that. I'm sorry you're a slave. That's wrong! It was wrong for me, and it's wrong for you and everyone of your people! I'd like to change that, but no one will listen!]"
> Her rump hit the ground as her precarious, post-heat cocktail of emotions boiled over. She covered her eyes with her hooves.
"[I've used you. I'm sorry. I didn't want to, but I couldn't control it! Back home we have- we have herbs, and it isn't so strong. I don't have that here and I couldn't think straight! You didn't have a choice. I'm sorry!]"
> Fat tears were trickling through her fur and she pressed her face more strongly into her hooves. Hands gripped around her fetlocks and pried them apart. She blinked away the pink and purple after-images to stare at Rangi's concerned face.
> "[I don't mean you,]" he told her. "[You didn't kill my people. When we take our revenge, you will not be hurt, okay?]"
> She shook her head, partly because he was wrong - she had killed Ruslans, even if it had been mostly in self defense - and partly out of dismay over his persistence to avenge his lost clan.
"[It will just make it worse, don't you see? You'll fight the Borchi-Quin again. Even if you win, and your people are freed, what's left of them. They will go away and you'll begin your clan again. The Ruslans. They will grow stronger and they'll remember this tragedy. Then, maybe your children, or their children, will come back and we'll fight again!]"

> Her hoof batted ineffectually against Rangi's shoulder.
"[Don't you see?! It will be the same thing again! Maybe we'll win, or maybe you will, but people will die, and others will be enslaved, and the anger will continue to new generations!]"
> He took that in. "[So what do we do?]"
"[It has to stop somewhere! Rangi- if I get your people freed, if I get you animals, and food, and metal weapons. Away from being Borchi-Quin slaves. Can you forget the revenge? Can you start over?]"
> She saw how his fists bunched up again, and how the muscles in his neck tightened as he clenched his jaw. His nostrils flared in anger, and she laid both hooves on his forearms.
"[Please! You know I'm not lying to you. We have to break this circle of violence! I'm taking the Borchi-Quin to a new land. To my home. There's plenty of food, and it's safe. We can all make a new start!]"
> He shook his head and her heart sank, but the she saw he was simply trying to get a lock of hair out of his eyes. His expression was pained, and his hands found her fetlocks again. He squeezed them tightly, but she didn't mind.
"[You don't have to answer. Just- think about it. If you go through with the revenge, then your children will suffer. Their children will suffer. All the way to the end of time, your people and mine will be caught in a circle of hurting each other.]"
> Rangi relaxed a little, but his eyes were still troubled. She felt her own knot in her stomach loosen a little. Maybe, in time, she would get through to him. Even more tenuously, maybe with him on her side, she could get through to the other Ruslans. In Equestria, with the majesty of the Royal Sisters behind her, she was sure she could convince the rest of the camp, too.
> The two peoples would probably never be friends, but perhaps she could keep them from killing each other anymore.
> There was just one problem.
"[You can't tell any of this. Not to anyone, okay? Not Salki, not Saule, not any of your people! Not unless I say!]"
> He stared at her, and her ears began to creep back, thinking just how nicely she'd placed herself under his control. Saule would doubtlessly be happy to hear about Thistle's scheming.
> Then again, she had something on him, too. His talk about revenge could land him, and all his people, in serious trouble. Even worse than they already were.
> "[I can't tell anyone that we fucked, and I can't tell anyone that we talked. What am I supposed to say if Saule asks?]"
"[Tell her I needed to be alone, just like I said! Tell her I had to watch the moon!]"
> He released her hooves and Thistle fell down to the ground. "[You didn't watch the moon. You didn't even leave the tent,]" he pointed out, mouth suddenly quirking up to a mischievous grin.

> Rangi gave this some thought, then shrugged. "[So we will sneak away the next time you want it?]"
"[I told you! There won't be a next time!]"
> "[We'll see,]" he said with sudden smug self-confidence which instantly scrunched up her muzzle.
> She gave a loud humph and began walking again. Behind her, Rangi tugged on the donkey's leash to get the animal moving too, and followed her.
> Once more she couldn't look at his face, but this time thanks to burning embarrassment. She couldn't afford to let him know that she really did want it.
> Maybe it was residual heat, or maybe it was just the mare in her, but she wanted to feel that closeness again. Salki was out of reach, but maybe, if she found ways to keep it discreet, this could continue.
> It was still wrong, but somehow hearing Rangi joking about it made her feel less bad.
> Was it enough that he thought he'd had a choice, even if it wasn't real? He'd chosen yes, so maybe the point was moot?
> If she committed a crime, but her victim didn't see it as such, was it as bad as the other option?
> She couldn't help feeling dirty. She'd go and scrub herself down in the cold stream when they were back, and this time she wouldn't take Rangi along to help.

No big surprises here, I wager. The important thing is they both survived her crazed mare hormones.

A bit of bad news, though. My vacation days have piled up over the past five years or so, and HR is making me take a prolonged vacation. Parents been clamoring to see me, too, so I'll be going to visit them for a month. The only portable electronic I have is phone and my work laptop, so no chance to write until I'm back.

Someone else quickly start a cool new green while I'm gone!

I expect to be back, full of piss and vinegar, sometime around Aug 10th.

They banned it because it was fetish and/or shit that the mods didn't like, not because it was porn. Same with fluffy pony.

Read >>42391472 again. Porn green is allowed, but not all types. Heck, even here if someone linked the filly brothel it got deleted/banned.

Are there any good stories featuring a pony that's unhappy in equestria and winds up in the human world, gets captured by a human and made into a pet and finally lives the life they always dreamed
