>>42196240Welcome to the fifth /mlp/ Game Jam!
Our theme this time round is... Pony Hobbies!
Now, what does that mean? That's for you to decide! Try to rationalize what ponies do in their free time, what do they occupy themselves with whenever they're not on the clock? My recommendation is either to think of your favorite pony and make a game around one of their hobbies, or think about a game genre and see what hobby it could represent and applying it to the corresponding pony.
NO SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED! ALL SUBMISSIONS WELCOME!
This time, we'll do things a little bit differently:
>Devs will have a little more time to submit their games>Late submissions are still accepted! But not guaranteed to be showcased on stream, on time submissions will take priority. (They will, however, be mentioned on stream. As well as added to the game jam page)>Each game will be showcased an average of ten minutes. This depends on the game however, if the entirety of the game takes place on a single screen and can be fully completed in thirty seconds, its time may be shorter than 10 minutes. Also, I recognize I was too drunk last time, I need a somewhat clear head for this. So, I'll cut back
If you're thinking of participating, please sign up! I'm aware that not everyone that signs up is able to submit a game, and that's okay! But I need an idea of what I'll be working with for the panel, and for that I'll need a heads-up in the number of potential games in the jam!
Now, here's an extra recommendation:
DON'T LEAVE EVERYTHING FOR THE LAST MINUTE
PLEASE DON'T JUST SPEND THE LAST THREE DAYS WORKING ON YOUR GAME 24/7
PACE YOURSELF AND DO A LITTLE EVERY DAY
FAQ:
>If I do [x] will I be disqualified? There'll be no disqualifications, all games uploaded to the Jam will be showcased. There's only one rule: It has to be pony
>Do I have to make all my assets from scratch? No, you can use free and pre-made assets
>I don't know how to make games, this'll be my first time coding something in my entire life, can I still participate?Of course! In my opinion, game jams are a great way to get started into gamedev; You get a set deadline, a prompt to start and ponies!
>What game engine can I use?You can use any engine! A year ago someone made a game with the cmd window and I still think about it
>When is the showcase happening? As of now, Sunday 4:00 PM CST on /mlp/con. It'll last for three hours
>Can I work with others to make my game?Yes! Feel free to either work with a team or make your game solo.
>Fuck you. I'm making a game but I'm not following the themeIf you're stumped on what to create, you can always ask for inspiration in the thread!
If you want to contact me for ANY reason, here's my email:
littlehorseappreciator@proton.me
Anchor for any announcements or changes
>>42274221 (OP)For some reason it got deleted:
>Fuck you. I'm making a game but I'm not following the themeWell, I'm not the boss of you, if you REALLY do not care about the theme and just want to upload something, I can't stop you. But I strongly suggest you reconsider! People tend to get real creative when limited! I'm certain you'll have fun trying to come up with something.
>>42274221 (OP)>>42274223Also forgot the goddamn Jam link

If you, for any reason, don't want to make a itch account to upload your game, you can also email me the game with to the email listed in the op
Though I recommend doing it via the itch page if for any reason you want to modify your game after the showcase
>>42274221 (OP)>my theme idea wonSick.
Now i just need to learn godot.
>>42274221 (OP)>23 people have joined the jam on itch so farjesus
Anons, you started your game already, right?
You've atleast created your project file, right?
You're not going to no-life the last three days, right?
>>42275110Fuckin' hell i haven't even thought of an idea yet calm down
>inb4 design document autist rears his ugly head
>>42275110I haven't even learned how to program anything (I am retarded)
>>42275303I'm on the same boat anon, but no matter what I want to submit something by the end of this
I'm just an art and writing guy
I can do another visual novel or like a quiz game
I liked the idea of a short srpg based on historical battle reenactment, but I don't know how to do that
>>42275727>quiz gameI can think visualize Twilight for this one, she gives extra classes to Cheerilee's class in her free time.
>SRPGLooks like there's a "SRPG studio". Looks like it's beginner frinedly, might be worth looking into that
>42275727 #
>quiz game
I think I can visualize Twilight for this one, she gives extra classes to Cheerilee's fillies on her free time.
>SRPG
Looks like there's a "SRPG studio" on steam, I imagine that it's similar to RPG studio. Looks like it's beginner friendly, might be worth looking into that.
>>42275727>quiz gameI think I can visualize Twilight for this one, she gives extra classes to Cheerilee's fillies on her free time.
>SRPGLooks like there's a "SRPG studio" on steam, I imagine that it's similar to RPG studio. Looks like it's beginner friendly, might be worth looking into that.
Can a pony's work be her hobby? Like, she really really likes her work, so much so that her cutie mark is literally the fruit of her labor.
Also the word "hobby" has the definition of "pony or small horse" albeit archaic, so has long as the game has ponies in it, it should classify has being part of the theme "hobbies" ^:)
what if pony hooby its hobbyhummoning. Like lyra walk on humon mulage
What IS a hobby?
Is mare taking care of her garden a hobby or her work?
Most mares are autistic about some specific thing that they like and do only that.
HOW DO YOU MAKE A GAME WITH THAT IT'S GOING TO BE HER JOB FFS
>>42277758Anon, let's take applejack for example: She enjoys her work, she's proud of it, she wouldn't give it for anything in the world, but she has a life outside of it too. She goes out with her friends, maybe she practices an instrument, her autistic ass probably has a favorite tree that doesn't give as much apples anymore but she takes care of because of nostalgia sake.
Anything that doesn't make you money but you enjoy doing, is a hobby
>>42278088So... when hobby gives you money it's a sidejob instantly?
Alright finally have an idea for a game that doesn't seem too big of a scope, but i now realize that i have to make assets/animations from scratch as well as learning to program on the fly and time seems to not be enough for all that...
Any good 2d sprites/assets websites out there to maybe cut some corners?
>>42278391Well, for starters, last jam had a handful of assets https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41826479/#41826479
Here are the assets
https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41826479/#41939957
There was also a page full of pony sprites but I can't seem to find them
>>42276990QWOP, but it's Lyra trying to walk on two legs
Just slightly bent some pins in my processor today while trying to reapply thermal paste and can't seem to fit it in the socket anymore, going to try and ask a friend for help tomorrow but i might be out of the game jam... Hope it's just me being retarded...
>>42278256as long as it isn't your main source of income, it can still be a hobby
>>42280626I think bent pins aren't much of an issue, you just need to bend them back carefully.
Also, I've read online that heating them up and making the metal less brittle to reduce the chance of them snapping off is a good idea.
If you're patient and careful, you'll be fine anon
>>42280626>bent pinsEvery time I hear about bent pins I have flashbacks to the time I tried to fix my buddy's pc.
He used so much thermal paste it was leaking out of the sides, and some of it got into the socket somehow. It looked like one of those Japanese pornos, it was everywhere.
When he lifted the cooler, the cpu was STUCK to the bottom and a bunch of pins were bent. They were almost flat.
If that crime scene of a pc managed to work for a little bit before shitting itself, I'm sure a couple of slightly bent pins won't be an issue. You'll be fine lad.
>>42280641>>42280653Thanks, that's kind of reassuring. I was fidgeting with a needle to put them as straight as possible but only one of the sides was sliding into the sockets while the other side seemed to not go in fully. If tomorrow the result is the same i might just ignore it and see if the marechine still works regardless.
>>42280708Another neat trick I've seen people do is take all of the lead out of a mechanical pencil, and stick the pin in the hole to gently bent them back into place.
You could try that if you have one laying around
I need a writer and Programmer guy
Don't think too hard about it anons! If it feels right it's probably right
Alright computer problem was fixed, needle the second time around worked pretty well, all seems to be working. Time to jam now.
Sympathy bump for fellow game makers
>>4227921530! I hope you're joining because you do plan on making a submission, and not just to make the number go up

>>42280626If it's any consolation, it's easier to straighten pins on CPU (done that a few times) than on motherboard, like with AM5 nowadays.
>>42280653>When he lifted the cooler, the cpu was STUCK to the bottomFWIW, I had this happen suspiciously often with normal amounts of paste and AM4 socket. The thermal compound pone really wants them to stay close.

p10 boop
I kind of want to try. I have an idea, I know the basics of how to realize it, and I've got it all figured out in my head, but managing the entire vidya-making process looks like like such a daunting task to start.
My trouble is that my idea is basically a rhythm game, which I know will be hard to find (probably steal) music for and also calibrate everything
>>42289100I did a rhythm game last year for this game jam, it's not terribly difficult if you know what you're doing and the premise is simple (mine was like literally just having you do 2 actions timed to beats).
If anything doing all the UI work and stuff took as much time as the actual beat timing part, but I guess it just depends on how comfortable you are with such things.
Though to be fair I had a song made for my game last year so I had the MIDI which helped me set up the beat information (easier to do than just listening to it), but if you know the song's BPM and it's not super complex rhythmically it's also not too hard to do.
>>42289100>>42289538I love rythm games! Please do try anon
I didn't even see this was a thing, though it's kind of late for me to join now...
>>42289993Anon, there's more than a week left. Most people haven't even started their game, I haven't started my game.
A good handful of anons don't start the game until two days before the deadline try not to do that. There's always time
>>42290014I'm crunching other deadline and commissions and making merch for Mare Fair, I just can't spare the time.
>>42290020Ah, oh well. Hope you finish everything on time anon! We do one every 4 months. This being our 5th one.
Be sure to be on the lookout at that time! We'll probably decide on the exact date in this thread after the showcase, so bookmark this thread until this dies!
Is there an asset pack or something I can use? I think I saw something about that way back when this was announced but I can't find it.
>>42291147There was one for the last jam you can probably use, but there are no restrictions/freebies this time.
>>42291123Probably? It's a lot of work tho.
>>42283588Wait, it wasn't this sunday?
Cool, I will try to make something then.
>>42285547It's easy Anon.
Just type
-----
print( "Mares, I love mares.." )
mare=input("Which is the best mare?")
print(f"Yeah, {mare} is a good mare")
-----
in a file named "mares.py"
Install python, and run the file.
Enjoy your mares.
How do you deal with the realization that the smallest possible version of your game is far beyond what you can get out in 10 days?
>>42294420i just realized this, and that's why i'm probably quitting, i can't learn to code and make the game in 10 days while juggling my 45 hours wagey weeks.
>>42294420>>42294515What you two can do is repurpose whatever you have into something smaller. I've always seen game jams as a chance to finish a project in an estimated time. To learn to scope and work in time-frames.
Even if it's a very small game. Something with 30 seconds lf gameplay.
If you guys got an idea post it here. I might be able to make it in 10 days.
>>42296207celestia making pancakes (canon)
>>42297162Like one of those stacking games
>>42294613That is, unfortunately, not an option for me. But I'm stubborn, and I'll finish this game, dammit!
"Real" game jams are usually up to 72h long. Surely three times that much is enough for a simple first time project.
pic semi-relate
Ok, im actually fucked, i've been humbled. I went in this knowing nothing about coding or game making but thinking i could figure something out, turns out this shit is actually hard. Made progress in the first half hour i worked on the game today, just to fuck it up when trying to had physics/gravity/collision.
Tried to go with GameMaker because it looked like a more newbie friendly option but it seems it might bite me in the ass cause i can't find the solution to my problems.
>>42294613i'm coming to terms with this but at the same time it seems not doable...
>>42297820I don't know shit about gamemaker, but in unreal that's solved by adding the haybales to the same collision group and setting it to blocking.
They're clipping off the top of the screen a little bit, you might be using point physics instead of it doing physics on a box shape?
>>42298150Makes sense, but i've made the collision box the same size as the sprite, and i can't seem to make it work still, i can't figure it out, just going to drop out the jam and learn more about coding in general to eventually be able to do anything presentable. thanks for trying tho, good luck to everyone, this shit's hard.

It's actually fine code-wise because what this UI function actually does is synchronize the number shown in the UI with the current count of the item copies possessed, but this would not be readable even a month from now and I'm too scared to refactor.
Is it fine to submit something before the deadline and add to it afterwards before it's shown? I just think if I had another day or two I could polish my game a bit better before the convention showcase.

>>42318599fixed the image for you
You fegeleins should include a video playing it yourselves or a text or AI audio tutorial on how it's meant to be played. Most people will have no idea what they're supposed to do unless it's a very basic platformer and all the controls and goals are obvious.
>>42318656Zoomers should need to learn like everyone did, back in the flash era and before.
No one needed it back then, no one needs it now. You can't prove me wrong.

>>42274221 (OP)It looks like I might be able to get my game into a playable state by tomorrow, but it'll benefit a lot from an extra day or two of polish. Should I put tomorrow's version on the jam page before the time runs out, or send it as a late submission when it's "ready"? Maybe both?
>>42319236If it's in a playable state then you can submit it tomorrow and polish it in the coming days. I won't count it as a late submission since it's in a playable state already
24 hours left

>>42319508PANIC
It's starting to look like I wont have time to finish my rhythm game's visuals at all, coding and debugging took much longer than expected
>>42319756Get the basic fundamentals done before deadline, the presentation is on Sunday so you have a couple more days to drop an update that polishes the visuals

EVERY SUBMISSION AFTER THAT TIME WILL BE COUNTED AS A LATE SUBMISSION, AND WILL HAVE LOWER PRIORITY IN THE SHOWCASE. As per stipulated in the OP.
>>42320893>>42274223Extended the submission time by a tiny little bit.
Also, fixed the bug where the private field wasn't private EVEN THOUGH I CLEARLY SELECTED IT TO BE.

>>42274223Alright, I'm going to sleep. I want you all to know that after the time runs out, I'll poen the Jam again for the late submissions. On-time submissions will have higher priority but I'll try my best to show EVERY game. I WILL make mention of every game
Last bump before the deadline
Welp I tried to get things done by the deadline but that's just not happening I think. Have been working pretty constantly all this week so far but there's just been too much to do. Scoping is just impossible lol.
Even if I did finish the core gameplay though (which I am close to doing) I just don't have all the UI art finalized yet, and I kinda don't want people's only impression of the game to be something incomplete. Holding off until it's in a state I am happy with is probably for the best.
Should be done by Sunday though and hopefully it can be shown off then. Until then, another 2 days of work ahead.
Good job everyone else for submitting on time.
Loads of consistent progress meaning 4 hours a weekend :P?
What was your workflow for this jam, people? I hope you didn't waste 6 hours staring at the screen thinking what to do.
>>42322586We're lucky to have a team working on the game lol. Personally, my unemployed ass was nolifing this.
I had experience working on unity, so it took a bit of learning, both from online resources and the other team membersโ implementations.
We kinda had an idea of what to do like a few days before the "anon choices" finalized. We looked at the voting trend and worked out the plans for the most likely winners. The development is of course only started when the jam officially starts. GitHub source code will hopefully be revealed to prove that.
This way, we avoided scrambling for ideas right when the jam starts, and also maintaining team cohesion with mutually approved ideas.
>>42319508finished game within 4 hours
>>42322586I couldn't start until it was 50% done, and It's my first gamejam or gamedev project at all, so while I had an idea of what I want to do and how to do it, it ended up consuming vastly more of my time than I expected.
But having a clear idea is very important, so the first two days of effort went into figuring things out in my head and writing it down with physical pen&paper, then writing took the next four, and finally progressively more cooding over the last four, culminating in a ~15h session I'll be finishing soon.
just found out about this with 3 hours left. made a "game" in 2 hours. life is good
>>42274223ALRIGHT! Now that we've reached the first deadline I've re-opened the Jam for late submissions! Any game uploaded after this time will be counted as a late submission.
As stated in the OP, late submissions will be shown after the on-time ones, which have priority.
But I'm pretty sure we'll have time to show off all the games, as we have double the time now than we had last year.
>>42323290Stayed up till 6:30 working, but it was all worth it. Damn Windows wouldn't let me change the default window size until I went and deleted a registry key, which took me like an hour to figure out.
>>42322585Anon, I applaud you for managing to finish a game. I entered this with the mentality of doing the most simple of games, and I couldn't even finish that. Really puts into perspective the hard work of the creators in the fandom
Have a page 10 bump, since you all are trying to keep it floating
Are we bumping it for any special reason?
Maybe at least until the panel, right?
Got all the gameplay stuff for my game done with 1 day left. Hopefully will be able to finish the UI and other bits it needs in that time or I am cooked.
>>42328864Yeah, we normally keep it up so people have tome to find the games after the panel
I'm impressed with the beach bar game and a few more. Seems like people really wanted management this time regardless of pony hobbies. The beach bar game however seems to have a bug where purchasing milk doesn't spawn it back at the base. My favourite still has to be the fish catching game and what I assume was an everfree forest or spooky theme.
>>42329806The idea for my game was book sorting with Twilight. I bet it would be a old hobby Twily would enjoy.
Simple stuff, but couldn't get on top of it in the time frame and first proper game I was looking into... Will probably do it later, hopefully without my computer issues getting the better of me.
Added the infinite time game mode to Mare Fair: Tendie Frenzy
Added visuals and dialogue to jammin with lyra
Finished my submission, giga late because I couldn't get multiplayer to work in browser because of https, had to settle for a windows build but it's finished nonetheless. Hope there will be time for it :P
Somebody should make a 2nd thread pointing out all finished games including posting about it in the gaming general. Did the stream/video already happen?
https://itch.io/jam/mlpcon-game-jam-anons-choice
>>42330749I could make a second thread with a callage of all the submitted games when the showcase finishes, if you feel it necessary.
I do plan on redirecting anons to this thread at the showcase. I'll probably ask a janny to link both the thread and the itch page via a poll or similar.
Three hours until the panel and I posted the final update to the thing I made.
Fingers crossed it doesn't melt your computer, because fuck me that was extremely complicated for very little results.
>>42331315I noticed, thanks for posting in the thread! It was a bit heavier than the last version. I've got a beffy computer and it didn't melt it when I tested it, so it looks like it'll be alright!
Also: Anyone submitting/updating any games please also the announcement in the thread, it makes things easier
>>42331475I didn't finish proofreading/cutting down the wordswordswords of EEEEE, but I sent some fixes last night. Also, I realize it's not a very 'exciting' game for a stream, so if you notice it really killing the energy of the panel, it'd be totally reasonable to skip it a bit sooner!
Panel starts on 15 minutes in cytube 1!
THE JAM IS ABOUT TO START. I'VE INCREASED THE SUBMISSION TIME FOR A TINY BIT. HURRY
Managed to submit something somewhat playable, though I am not too happy with it because I wasn't able to finish some of the core UI stuff for the gameplay (essentially missing a feedback/scoring UI to let you see how well you're even doing).
If anyone wants to check out what my week of suffering led to though it's here: https://presentfactory.itch.io/sunset-smoothies
I'll probably update it a bit in the future to actually get the missing gameplay features since it's missing a lot still and some should be easy enough to add with some more time.
Fantastic games everyone! I know mine was just a shitpost but I'm so impressed with all the talent and hard work everyone put into this, you're all amazing!
Good job everyone! Let's keep this thread alive for a little bit so people can find and play the games after the con!
Now, the question remains: Do you feel that a Jam every 4 months is too much?
>>42332771>>42274223Anchoring this because I want to hear everyone's opinion, gamedevs and otherwise
I don't expect my game to get showcased, but I'll still finish the Twi book sorting game in the future. Good stuff everyone.
I loved the cloudwatching with fluttershy game! Perfectly polished, short and comfy. 10/10
I think someone did fanart of the space mare getting raped

>>42332771one every 4 months seems like a lot and could cause burnout. i would recommend extending game jam submission time rather than the amount of game jams in a year
>>42332886she was more hot when she was an orb
>>42332771I think once every 4 months is fine. Honestly, the ideal would be twice a year, 6 months apart, but that just doesn't work with the con schedules, and having an extra jam to break up the 8 month stretch doesn't hurt.
>>42332771I will personally participate in every jam whether there be 2 or 3 per year, and I enjoy them so the more the better for me. But I understand why some might want only 2.
>>42333555checked
i will also participate in any upcoming jam no matter the amount
>>42332771>four monthsI'm okay with that, I need more practice so I'll be doing it no matter the schedule. I worked on it in my free time for two weeks, and the part chat liked the most is something that took me maybe four hours to put together. Those keks made the whole thing worth it but it's clear my priorities are way off.
>>42333249>>42332256
>>42334464wrong thread fuck
Also accepting any and all critique about the panel, and the Jam organization
>>42334890>critique about the panelAll I can say is, Git Gud ^:)
>>42334890Where is the bloody link you bloody bastard? Where is the Youtube video?
>>42335601https://youtube.com/watch?v=1jmi-Ojgn0w
Video from the Jam. I knew I forgot to post it!
The version with chat should come in maybe a week from now. I'll post it here when it appears
>>42332794Thanks! Polish is something that's often lost during the time crunch of a jam, so I really restrained my ambitions and just tried to make something really tightly made with what little time I had.
>>42333922>>42333555>>42333718>>42332900Maybe do a smaller Jam with a shorter time-frame? So you guys don't burn yourselves out with doing 3 big games. Maybe a week to work on your game?
>>42336435For me it doesn't make much difference if it's one week or one month, I'll start the game in the last week
>>42335644>POY HOBBIESAnd you'll live with that typo for the rest of time.
>>42335644For anyone who wants to take over for this mexican/spanish ESL anon. For those without a clean desktop you can create a folder and put all the games in there. Zai... who's dox do you have there?
1. You're supposed to play the games as they come out or give yourself a 1 week time to play all the games so you don't come off like an IGN reviewer who doesn't know how to crouch. OR put the gamedevs to prerecord footage and you just play that prerecorded footage on the stream.
2. Learn English for God's sake. I don't think even the AI voiceover can help with this if you pronounce words incorrectly. Could use AI if you really suck at acting, albeit AI also sucks at acting, but at least free & even paid AI services can speak English properly.
That's it.
If you want to be experimental and be more "inclusive" you can include a separate optional jam for tabletop creators, quest creators, game document creators.
Also are all the current games opensource or you guys haven't decided on that? some gamejams even do a code rating contest to rate how spaghetti your code is.
>>42336687Don't you have a job? I think this year's games were the biggest and most well polished for having 3 weeks time. Most people with a wagecuck job only end up working in the weekends so barely 6 days.
Actual gamejams keep them at 2-3 days because those maniacs actually stay the full 48 and 72 hours and sleepless nights coding like speedy gonzales.
>>42337079>game documentOh it's you again, this writting style seemed familiar
>>42337079The panels are more fun when he has to get used to the controls and the game is still fresh for him
>prerecorded footagegay
>learn englishI can understand him just fine and his accent is funny
>>42337079Nah it's way more fun to watch him play the games blind.
>>42337079I'd rather have Zaifer's soul and first impressions alongside everyone in the con than some souless nigger with perfect vocabulary
These were probably the most polished and fun games so far. So 3 weeks and doing these continously proved fruitful for you guys.
We used to have a more traditional gamejam of just 48 hours way back in 2012. Most GameJams make you record your screen for 48 hours so they don't catch you writing code before it and copy-pasting it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-PrrfLXIHw&ab_channel=Blazarius
Out of that 2012 gamejam we've had over 40 games produced, most of questionable quality, with the best one in my opinion being the 2nd winner Maurice's Order Of Twilight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaf1f_fHWNo&ab_channel=Bloodyplant this was after Hasbro's version of it came out a few months before. https://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/07/pinkie-pies-adventure-ponies-commercial.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpY3Uuo9ZxI&ab_channel=Letupita725HD%E2%98%85
You could send 2 emails to EquestriaGaming & Daily, respectively, each game 1 by 1, if you want some eyes on your games. I think they're actually well built.
>>42337380>Sending an email to equestria dailyI'd love to get more eyes on these games, god knows the devs deserve it, but are you sure?
>>42337380> more traditional gamejam of just 48 hours 48 hours development time or 48 hours irl time?
I donโt think anyone can make a game that isnโt super basic in 48 hours, seems pointless if all youโre going to get is buggy garbage like that Metal Gear Twilight game. Or end up with mediocre games that are touched once then left alone to rot and sit in stagnation.
>>42337380>48h gamejamthose are always a fun challenge but most anons here are solo devs and I think the 48h format is more appropriate for small teams
>>42337079The blundering is the best part
>>42337084The advantage of being a neet is I can nolife the final week
>>42337124The fuck is a "game document?" Is that where a no-skills "ideas guy" tells everyone else what he wants them to make, and then they ignore him because everybody with a working brain has their own ideas already?
>>42337079>clean desktopMost files that weren't games were just background gags. I thought it'd be funnier if I just had weird stuff in the background I never acknowledge
> play the games as they comeI was gonna do this initially, but the devs said they liked the first impression aspect. I did keep the controls written down in txt documents, next jam I might just write them down on paper so I don't have to tab out of the game though.
>who's dox do you have thereMine, not really a dox, more like everything I had on my desktop, ponut pics I didn't want youtube to see mostly
>Learn EnglishI know english, the pronunciation is what hinders me. I'm practicing though!
>AINah, I hate AI voice overs, and I'm sure most people do as well
>separate optional jam for tabletop creators, quest creators, game document creatorsI think those are different skills altogether, wouldn't really fit the theme of the Jams. And do you mean CYAO creators? If you have something in mind you could maybe do a separate thing with all of these
Also. Here's the recording from the panel, complete with chat:
https://pony.tube/w/rhUAtzReaKgvobgYconsFv
Something I'll say myself is this: My video output looks like shit, I don't know why, I thought I set it to a decent quality. I'll try to fix it by next jam
>>42337079This might be a matter of preference, but I find it funny that anon takes this less seriously than he could've. Presenting games in a normal way would be good because these are pony games after all, but IMO this is the better approach for a convention panel, where the attendants likely expect fun more than proper journalistic standards. Seems that many viewers - not sure if majority - enjoy this style of presenting with intentional retardation as well.
If one wants to check out the games properly, they can (and should) play them themselves anyway.
>code rating contestNot exactly that, but there's an idea on my mind of a panel about "reverse engineering" previous gamejam entries and showcasing some secrets or silly things found inside (if any), maybe writing cheats for our IGN journalist^W^W^W anons with lower skillz. Not live, would have to prepare stuff beforehoof and at most show some steps how to find the funni. Two reasons I haven't done it yet: I'm not well versed in RE beyond basic data mining, and more importantly I'm not sure if the presentation would be made fun enough to balance out technical babble, since not everyone is a techfag.
Case in point, anon showcasing games - he just has fun with those games in his own special way, and viewers have fun alongside him. It's a good skill to captivate the audience like he does.

>>42337079>>42339498I'll add something though. If anyone wants to co-host feel free to email me. It'd be nice to have someone to help with the panel, and to do it if I'm unavailable. Like it almost happened this time round
1 bump cause I want to ask when should I expect the new game jam? I'm already thinking how to make the next one more interesting. People taking the pony hobbies theme lightly seems to have been effective since everyone already made what they wanted regardless of the theme which was broad enough that every game fit the theme.
>>42341247Based on the positive feedback and that the majority seem to want it. Yes, in around four months. I'll probably post a thread a couple of weeks before the Jam starts for visibility and to decide on the theme, we probably won't do votes, we might just talk it out. I expect this next jam to be more relaxed than the last one.
It won't have as many eyes on it as it is a non-con jam.
For the same reason, it'll probably be a lot longer and we can play the games to completion.
In short:
New Jam thread in 3 months (October).
3 week time limit.
Showcase will be in 4 months (November).
It'll be a non-con stream showcase on cytube that I'll record.
If anyone has any objections, please speak now or forever hold your peace.
>>42337831>buggy garbage like that Metal Gear Twilight gameHey, I respect him for making something 3D with rigged animations. It's a lot harder than a 2D game, and it WAS functional in the end.
>>42341247>new game jam?>>42341610New jam is good, except we should totally do a more focused theme because it's fun to be creative and work under constraints.
>>42331575UNF, would give mangos to
The Luna adventure game & The Bartender game have potential to be turned into bigger games since now they have the base.
The Luna game is interesting how it's supposedly made in RPG Maker ... but it opens command prompt & shit probbably to mess with your screen's color & brightness for the effects cause RPGMaker can't do that among other stuff. Or maybe it is a Russian collecting data on your PC since it has a network connection.
Story of the Blanks was also a 1month gamejam game, HoofBall and Derp Till Dawn weren't but they were also small as hell.
I was disappointed when I entered Story of the Blanks since I was expecting a fully fledged Zelda game and the game ends after just 20 minutes. There were a lot more things that could have been done with it. Just like that game being made by 1 gamedev right now with the random village generation focused on atmosphere and where the horse can crouch, eat, pick up items.
>>42341988Agree! Something specific and unmistakeable is best
>>42342852glimglam game jam when?
>>42343089There will be enough time in hell to do as many of those as you want.

Shimsham level of shitposting
Last bump for me.
If any of you want to do the thread promoting the submitted games feel free to do so.
If you need to find me and there isn't a Jam thread feel free to email me for anything.
I'll see you guys in around 4 months.
>>42274221 (OP)hey guys I just saw this thread, when does the game jam start? I'd like to join
>>42337380Tried out Order Of Twilight because of your post. It's a fun game and I beat it.
The only thread that actually created content and everybody ignores it. That's the fandom/mlp/ for you.
Which game was your favorite from the jam? Which ones would you like to see continued/expanded upon?
>>42347409The beach bar one which could add a separate map, exploration and combat at the risk of turning it into Stardew Valley which had so much stuff it wasn't just about farming anymore. Could probably add relationshits as well with the townsponies.
That Luna game also seemed alright but the limitations and clunky combat due to being a hackjob on RPG Maker was obvious.
The Kirin one was alright too wish it wasn't a roguelike, but it's good for anyone who's into roguelikes and likes the Nirik gimmick.
A lot of these games focused on serving foods, drinks, managing NPCs, etc. almost like everyone talked to each other beforehand, including 1 game's pretty much a copy of the beach bar one but smaller.
>>42347951I think that's because people were hoping that fruit would win, and just made a fruit themed hobby. What's more fruity than a juice bar?
>>42348126Actually, I'm curious. Why did (You) not follow the theme,?
Was it too hard? Too boring?
I wanna participate in one of these sometime. When's the next?
>>42350487Right now, you have your game ready right?
>>42350492Lies
>>423504873-4 months tentatively. Keep an eye out for the pre-jam thread
